Hi Jay G and welcome to Rennlist.
Starting after "getting the door locks synchronized" is quite likely related to the immobilizer. If you happen to lock the car with the long key then unlock it with the short key or from inside, starting is blocked although the starter will crank. There are other possible lock/unlock combinations that can trigger the immobilizer too. Cycling the door locks together, using the long key, resets the tripped immobilizer and allows engine start. Your Owner's Manual has guidance on this feature.
As Alan shares, there's no link between oil level and fuel pump running on your '88. Coincidence, if there is such a thing on the 928.
If your challenges continue, go ahead start a new thread for it. The fuel pump relay and the triggers are different between the OP's '84 L-Jet and the later LH cars.
