Ake, That's Helena! I was also acquainted with her brother, he was a great Pro Tour water skier, but we never became friends or spent much time together. You are correct that there are many Swedes in Northern Michigan. Hearty foresters and pioneers of the ski industry.
My main family tree is from Belgium, Luxembourg, Great Britain and Western Germany. When you think about it, we are only about 700 kms apart in our ancestry... Perhaps I will visit Europe later this year, If I do, I'll make time to head a bit north and visit you. Regards, David

Ake,
If you are ever in the states, you are welcome to spend some time at our home... Although truthfully, most prefer more exciting parts of the country. Unless you like sailing on an inland sea or driving on twisty country roads.
Enjoy!

David, thank you for your invitation. Michigan sounds exciting for me as well as meeting you and seeing your nice cars. Pictures from a 928 get together we had here a few years ago. A few wide body cars can be spotted.

Ake,
That is quite a collection of superb cars and a beautiful spot to display them. I recognize a few of them from other threads.
Nice to see the wide body torch being carried in competent hands!
Springtime is almost here... Enjoy!

Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning... Steamers are awesome!
On left is after several scrubbings and on right is after steam cleaning with magic underbody sauce from Griot's Garage. I was surprised to be able to save the front wheel well liners.
Otherwise, pretty much everything under the car was cracked and not presentable. I matched each new part for conformity with original and am confident that the new Porsche parts match the originals exactly.
Progress is slow but steady...

Dave,
I'm following your progress enthusiastically. I just picked up a McCullough steamer a few days ago in hopes it would help in the cosmoline removal, once I get my car back. Was it the steam or the "magic underbody sauce" that helped most in the degreasing process? Your finished front liner looks new! Garage looks spotless as well. Keep em coming.

You can also use xylene to clean the cosmoline. It literally melts it. Wear gloves and have plenty of ventilation! You can get it at Ace Hardware.
Steamer may be the way to go though...

Dave a question, since you're S4 has the GTS rear fenders, does it have the fender liners on both sides also?

Looking good! Another product that’s great for cosmoline removal is Xenit. Works wonders on the wheel well liners.

The process I used was first to scrub them enthusiastically with Simple Green, then Dawn, then I used a flat (dull) scraper to get the chunks and tar deposits that are too tenacious for scrubbing. Then on to the steamer with a solvent based cleaner sprayed on first. Then stiff nylon brush alternating with the steam. Olman used the xylene, and it is probably a lot faster but I'm not wanting to breathe that stuff so I have to work harder.
Once all that is finished and the liner is almost clean, I use Griots sauce to finish them to that nice flat finish.
The steamer also works inside the wheel wells and leaves them shining like new!

This is not an S4, it is a GT with factory Wide Body option (XX8). It has all the factory liners a GTS has on the rear and the same as a normal GT on the front wheel wells.
Read and enjoy this whole thread and you will understand what a unicorn this Beast is.
