Jim and BC make great points. For what it's worth, back in the day that car wasn't a problem car. It ran reliably. How does it run now?

I have an e-mail from Klaus dated Sept 7, 2011. He contacted Murf928 looking for information since he thought it was a Murf928 supercharger setup on the car (it isn't, but it might have some Murf928 parts).
In that e-mail exchange is this archived internet link:
http://web.archive.org/web/200612111...sche_page.html

Long before Klaus owned the car, I was involved with a conversation about it (again because of the supercharger).
I cannot find the exchange, but I remember there were a lot of questions about the engine and if it actually was a stroker or a 5 liter with 944 turbo pistons installed for lower compression.
Nothing concrete, just sharing what I remember.

Nice to see this car surface again!

Given that he just bought this car it's "value" is what he PAID for it ! Plus maybe a 25% bonus value for possibly getting a "good deal"
But yes replacement cost would be a stupid high number....not that that is really relevant. All that is at risk is his out of pocket cost, no reason to try to make a profit on an potential insurance settlement.
If you wish to use the money spent as justification do not forget to ADD the $50,000 that the car sold for new in 1985 !

You are confusing fair market value with replacement value. The OP is talking about replacement value for insurance purposes, a common topic with collector cars and most are insured for more than what they could be sold for.

By your logic my 80 would have been totaled by the deer since my purchase price was less than the repair bill (which they paid out 100% minus my deductible).

The idea behind collector car insurance is protecting your investment, not recouping what you paid for it. Is your house insured for the appraised amount? I sure hope not!!!

OK how is the "investment" greater than the purchase price ?? True a year later, two years later, ten years later, the value may have appreciated and the investment will have added all repairs and replacements plus insurance costs

You are still confusing fair market value with replacement value. What the OP paid for the car is irrelevant. I've never been asked by my insurance agent what I paid for a vehicle or what I have "invested".
They don't care, it doesn't factor in.

By your logic, every used car taken in at a dealership is only worth what the dealership paid for it. Kinda hard to stay in business that way, isn't it?

I wouldn't bother to have insurance on my 80 if I were only able to insure it for what I paid for it, or even what I have invested in it (not much). If that is how the system worked, that SOB of a deer would have totaled the car.
Because I insured it for replacement value (instead of current fair market value or even my purchase price) my agent cut me a check to fix the car.

By some of this logic, if I receive a new Porsche as a gift I could only insure it for $0. Insurance is designed to replace or repair your vehicle not your "investment".

Any better pics of the exterior?

It looks like the rear half is a different colour than the rest of the car?

How about some interior pics?

I generally hate the term investment when it comes to cars, however you can get ins. to recognize an investment as added value. Like a truck I had roll the wrong way on a boat ramp. I was awarded about 70-75% of the cost for wheels(but not the tires), nerf bars and lights but only because I had the receipts.

Brett,

A small amount of history on the car:

Way back in December, 2001 I asked Marcus if it was necessary to install the S4 intake to make room for the aftercooler and supercharger. He said yes, it was, but that an 85-86 (organ pipe) intake could be have been retained if an air-to-air aftercooler was plumbed in the front of the radiator instead.

Congratulations on a great find!
