78 Euro Vin# question

They are. No argument on that. There is a lot to love about the 928.
However, they aren't really worth a whole lot, unless they are all original, low mile examples.
The reality of them is that, for one that "needs restoration", the cost of fixing it up is well beyond what the car will be worth when done.
This is true of a lot of cars, but many people fall into the "it's a classic Porsche, it must be worth a lot" trap.
Or they see what the 911s are gong for and think that the 928 is in the same price range. Or even close.

Me too! I have 3 that will probably not be worth much by the time I get them done, but I still think the therapeutic value is much higher, and the cost much lower....than a shrink!
Just something about rescuing a lost soul does it for me. Too bad my funds don't allow...I have walked away from at least a dozen so far.....would save them all if I was a bit more affluent.
Good luck!

Not so much trying to restore some rich guy's spent throwaway.
But, respectful for the cars as cool heavy duty sports car.
If I wanted perfect id buy a new gen vette

I'm not as current on prices as a lot of you guys, but I think $250-$2k is an extremely low range for a running & driving '78 Euro.
Of course, it's hard to determine a price based on no other info than was given (and "needs paint & interior" is very vague), and we all know that restoration costs could easily turn a gift car into an upside-down white elephant, but there could be much more here than you suspect. Potentially, it could have $600 worth of headlights alone, not to mention the value of all the other little bits, such as a radio, center console plastic, vents, exhaust, etc.. Heck, 8" headlights & 4 straight 15" phone dials & you have a $1,000 car, running or not.
And there is much more that can influence the prices. A desirable color alone could mean the difference between "saving" a car or parting it out.
Personally, I think a '78-9 (particularly an early '78 RoW), no rubstrip or sunroof, 5-speed with an unusual color and pascha interior, is probably THE best 928 as far as collectability (with maybe the GTS as the exception), and certainly is one of the most beautiful.

I paid 650$ for #30 (non running, but it is now)
I paid $1200 for my 82, running and driving
I paid $250.00 for my recent 79 (told it was running, I did start it, but fuel lines leak)
Without seeing it, and knowing the interior is shot....
So to me, pretty good ballpark.
Your mileage will vary.

Advanced
I have a 79 ROW - they referred to them as Grey market cars - back then easily imported. I believe mine is actually from Germany- as everything is in Germane & Kilometers. And it is very difficult to find info on them, just for the shear fact of the Vin#. KY actually added XXX's to the Vin# as the system would not accept mine - I had to provide proof and Pic's of the Vin# tags etc.

I think you got some exceptional deals there! However, they don't seem to be the norm. Any of those cars would part out for much more than you paid for them.
