How much power can a snailshell 931 tranny handle?
I've got a crazy idea to build something useful out of my three remaining parts cars and I'd like to use my extremely low mileage 1980 snail shell 931 transmission.
My question is, will this transmission be able to handle 250-300 HP?
Through my research I've found that this transmission has weak 1st and 2nd gears, but the term "weak" is relative and I can't seem to find any solid information. Does anyone have any real world experience with this transmission?
Thanks,
Alex

Burning Brakes
My uncle did a bunch of research on them, and found the 931 transmissions to be pretty stout with nicely spaced ratios. Isn't that the trans they put behind the Carrera GT cars? That was a factory 245hp and wide rear tires...
Regular snailshell transmissions weren't so good, but like everything else with the Turbo badge on it Porsche went overboard.

From what I have researched the "Snail" in my euro 931 is different from most but basicly the same. It has been coping with 250hp for about five years now with no issues. When I crank up the boost on 110 Leaded it does get closer to 300 hp but that is only in spurts. Just remember that the "Race" 931 cars got the 928 transmission conversion just as the DP N/A cars did.
