Temperature instrument light.

Temperature instrument light.
Hello everyone,
I removed the instrument dash to check and replace all the lights.
My concern is on the "Temperature Water Light" (red top), which does not light up when I turn the key, even though all the others lights do so (except the fuel reserve, which would lights up only if you are actually on reserve).
The temperature water bulb is working fine and tested before connected it (as I did with all the others).
I did a search on the internet looking at 944 instrument switched on and actually I couldn't find one with this light on when the key is turned (engine still off).
So I wonder, is this light staying off for all of you? If so how could I test it?
(I found out this light working on 928 and 968 but not a single one picture from a 944).

On my 87 turbo only the oil pressure and battery red lights come on with the key. Ive checked the high water temp light by grounding the wire on the engine sensor and it worked properly.

Three Wheelin'
You mention 'red top'
Are you indeed referring to the large center light with red background and an exclamation point ? OR indeed the actual temp. light which is at the bottom of the scale readout of the temp. dial ?

Thank you very much for the replies.
So I supposed this light has to stay indeed off when key is turned.
mrgreenjeans, yes I mean the small light (red) on the temperature indicator (like I circled on the pictures), not the "warning" big one in the top centre.
