Default What's this 944 Turbo worth?

Porsche 944 turbo 1987

I'm going to take a look at it because it's 2 miles away from me.

No records (in the ad at least). Odometer not working. He may be in the right price range but without maintenance history assume you will need some $$ bringing it up on all the needed maintenance.

For reference I just bought a '87 turbo with 88K miles no history repainted for 7500 (odometer working).

Worth checking out, but probably not worth $7500 based on the pics.

Non-working odo shows 114K miles, would be good to find out how long its been broken and estimate of real mileage.

Cracked dash more than likely under that plastic dash cover. Interior looks a little rough.

Doesn't look put back together well after the repaint (bumper cover looks jacked on the right side). The respray itself isn't alarming as the red paint on these cars can look like crap after 30 years, but be cautious of damage or a bad job.

If its up to snuff on service and doesn't need an immediate belt job and other things, and the respray is good with no damage lurking over it, the value will be a little south of the $7500. If it needs a lot of work, the respray isn't great, and there is damage under the paint, its $5K to $6k at best.

Hopefully it checks out and is a great car. Good luck!

Thanks. I've pretty much decided that I probably won't be buying this car, but if anyone wants me to have a look at it, I'll do it. I might just see it anyways for fun.

The price might be ok with a clean title...but with a rebuilt title and no explanation? Not a chance. There's plenty of them out there without this hanging over them.

Agree, he's high. By a good chunk. My 86 951 with only 4 years history I picked up for 7k. Interior is about 80%, body about the same. Runs great, put about 2k miles on it this month, hasn't missed a beat. Engine is very clean. Mine is pretty option heavy too. New belts, pump, clutch, CV axels, tires, brakes, master and slave cylinder, M030 sways F/R, short shift kit newly installed, seats not ripped, and everything works aside from the power locks (got the arms to fix it, just got to get around to pulling the door panels). I think I did get a good deal, but should give you a reference.

Even then, I've dropped about $700 into it so far. I'm getting close to being done getting everything where I want it. So it's right in the ballpark of the 8k I insured it for. I'm going to raise it to 10k once I get it 100% mechanical wise. I think that's a solid real value for it.

944s were alway excellent value, but haven't they gone up in value over the years? I cannot find many turbos around here (Chicagoland) for under $10k. Anything super clean or low miles is up there.

Everything transaxle is high at the moment so it's not a good time to buy. Ask any car dealer who's been in the business a while and they will tell you that these up/down cycles happen often and what goes up generally ends up down in the next cycle. Only the very rare few will maintain high prices 968TS, CGT, etc.
