stupid question on engine pull / install
ok so I am going to make myself look like an idiot here , but here goes.
I have noticed in the videos I have been watching that to pull a 944 N/A engine or re install the engine people are doing it from under the car , rather than lifting it straight up and out .
I don't own a 944 yet but am seriously looking at buying one . one of the cars i am considering , is a 3/4 finished project where the guy has pulled the engine , and not reinstalled it yet ( ran out of time , interest or what ever ) it has been sitting disassembled for 2 yrs or more .
THe hood is off the car at the moment , is there any reason i can't drop the engine into the car from the top with a cherry picker , or do they need to be installed from below ?

It's certainly doable, that's how I prefer to do it.
Would rather not have to mess with steering and suspension junk when just pulling the engine...other people don't mind I guess.
You just have to "steer" the engine carefully to get it to clear the hood latch and then align onto the driveshaft.

When I dropped my early (83) engine from my car, I didn't have to undo any A/C lines. I just unbolted the compressor from the bracket, pulled it aside and held it there with zip ties and dropped the engine out on a floor jack. I recently purchased a hydraulic lift table from Amazon, and it's all ready to go..It will lift 500 lbs, so that will assist me in getting in the engine, transmission, torque tube and rear suspension. I hope that it takes a lot of sweat out of the equation. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

If you have a couple of good floor jacks and jack stands, dropping out the bottom is not hard at all. When I did my remove and reinstall I needed a helper to align the drive shaft, not a hard project just took time and patience.
