Price opinion on 19k mile 944
This car is literally less than 5 min from me. I just starting recently looking at 928s but owned almost this exact car from 2002-2005, except mine had the rare sport seats. I'm a sucker for late 944s with Fuchs and seeing it brings back many fond memories, like picking up wife for first date in it etc. It's on Hemmings for 16k but seller said he expects no where near that, due to an accident in the Carfax from 2003. Looks like bids went to 8700 on eBay and met reserve but non paying winner. He also owns a well known European service shop who've I've had friends use on their 944. Small world I guess. Anyways, what are your guys' thoughts? I have not seen it in person yet but have spoken with the seller. I also found a minty 86 with 58k for 9500 locally as well.

Looked at the 85. Looks excellent and drives excellent. The interior is almost perfect as a 19k mile car would be. If you really know what to look for, you can see it was in an accident as indicated by Carfax back in 2003, right front impact. No frame damage and clean title, but some very slight gap inconsistencies on front bumper and hood. Paint was matched perfectly down to the orange peel. Most of paint on car appears original. Again, only if you knew about its history and what to look for, could you tell. My old 85 had the same thing, but this one was fixed a lot better. Anyway, 8500 is what I can get it for. And yes, mileage is true at 19k.

If it is well sorted mechanically then go for it!!

Bone dry underneath. I'd do timing belt out of precaution and prob do tires due to age within the next year or so. Timing belt looks brand new, but no records to back it up. Owner has had it two years but owns a German auto repair shop that I knew of before I met him.

Personally, I use Hagerty valuation tool, and really read and think about the descriptions they give for each category. I think it's VERY accurate, if used correctly. You just have to figure out where it's on the scale of Fair-Excellent. You can't just glance at it and get a solid value. They even say to give +'s for work recently done or like upgraded sways and shocks, etc. So a fair car with a lot of new parts can be in the good range price wise, and so forth.
As the man on the ground, only you know for sure, but I'd say that's a decent price. You have a seller that is very aware of the cars value, I'd try to get it for 8, and if he bites call it a done deal! I don't know if I'd personally pay almost 9k for a NA at this time, but I think examples like this are worth that much!
Plus 16 candles car! LOL

He thinks accident kills value, which is affects it obviously. However, It could not
have been super serious since it was an 18 year old car at the time and the title is clear. If it was bad it would have been totaled out. I feel the price is fair based on what I've seen out there.

Yes, and this car, with those miles, would likely be more like 12-14K at least. It is affecting the value, but you can pay it forward so to say. You get a deal, and the next person will too, etc....
I wouldn't feel ripped off for sure!

I've been slammed at work and just got back on here. I'm working on convincing wife who wonders why we need another toy car she can't drive. If she gives okay, I'll buy it. I will keep you posted.

Buyer beware!
You really need to do a compression test and a leak down test. That will tell you more about the age/wear of the motor then anything else. I think that the compression should be around 145 lbs for an 8 valve and about 116 lbs for a 16 valve. If it's still available I would have a Porsche mechanic go over it. The odometer gears in these beasts break and they do not register mileage. It's a 32 y/o car with about 500 miles a year? I say eyes wide open and good luck if you have purchased it!
