What should I do with this 88 944
So.... I acquired a 1988 944 track car from a racing buddy of mine. The car is an automatic and was originally set up with hand controls for the disabled driver. The hand controls have been removed. The car runs great! No smoke, no noises, great oil pressure, still has A/C, power windows and the headlights still open and close! LOL The paint is an awful re-spray but the body is straight. The front valance could use some love. The interior has been stripped and has an Autopower roll bar and two race seats.
So, my question is: What should I do with this thing? I thought about pulling the motor (1988 is a great year) and keeping it as a back up for my Spec 944 race car, and parting off what I can before taking it to the pound.
Any suggestions? Anyone want a project car? It could easily be converted to a 5 speed.

If the body and frame is good, please don't junk it. If you have a moment check out Dave W's "Darn it" thread over on 944online to see why I say that. Well, I have even more reasons but that's a main one.
Mainly it boils down to this. If you've got a really great running 944, and something crash wise happens, having a straight body to transplant your years of work and unknown 1000s of dollars in parts into can breathe new life into an otherwise dead 944. I firmly believe the community needs to start trying to keep these out of the crushers.
One could argue the fewer their are the more valuable our survivors will become, but good shells are going to get harder and harder to find if we don't start trying to save them. I don't mean to sound like a ASPCA commerical for 944s, but I kinda feel that way.
Plus since your a racer, I'm sure you know things can happen on the track, and you might want to keep it tucked somewhere safe just in case! For you or your buddies! And as you know, by 88 Porsche had the 944 down pretty good. Just about the best of everything. Hate to see all that get crushed.
If it's a no title race shell, that's a bit of a black eye, but there are always salvage titles for those that don't care about resell.
Anyway that's my .02

Get all of your 944Spec buddies together and convert it to a manual. I'm sure there are some extra parts laying around your region, so get everyone to donate a part, then assemble the team one week end and convert it with the goal of adding another car to the region. You could turn it into a loaner or rental to make the money back, and then sell it when the right buyer comes around that wants to join 944Spec in your region permanently.

So, I drove the car around for about a half hour today and it drives pretty nice. I'm seriously considering putting the interior back in it and making it a stock steel car.
Does anyone know how difficult it would be to install the headliner and rear panels?

Took me long enough to find this post. Ran across a 924S during my regular CL trawl for interesting cars, and remembered seeing your post about wanting an auto.

No affiliation, never seen the car in person, just passing it along.
