Default Speaker Replacement / Audio Connector Question

I am in the middle of a project to replace the rear speakers in my 94 968. My goal is to remove the existing speakers and store them. and make a pig-tail that will connect the existing wiring with the new speakers. If I do this, I do not have to disturb the wiring harness in any way, and a future owner can reverse my actions if they want to take it back to stock.

My question to the group is if someone knows of a source for a connector that will match the ones on the existing speaker (see photo)? There is one that seems slightly smaller than a standard spade connector, and one that is very thin. I have found some online that seem to me close, but it is unclear whether the size is right, and finding the male end (like on the speaker) is much less common.

My worst case scenario if I cannot find matching connectors to buy will be to cannibalize the connectors from the speakers I took out ( part number 944-645-505-00) to make the pigtail connector for the new speakers going in (which are Infinity Kappa 62.11I duals).

They make spade connectors in many different sizes, male and female. Most auto parts stores have a limited selection. Measure the width of the spades, then look on Amazon for the correct guage/spade width combo.

944 Lachlan,

Do you have part numbers for these items, as I looked on Advance Auto website, and trying to find these with their search capability did not turn up anything?

Thanks

Check NAPA, the ones near me have them on a rotating thing full of carded electrical items. Very wide assortment.

If anyone can supply part numbers of connectors like this that you have bought, it would be really helpful? I have tried searching on Advance Auto and NAPA, and could not come up with anything.

Thanks

I think you're referring to the smaller flat connector pin. It's a 2.8 mm male pin, and the female has been available from VW/Audi or Porsche under various part numbers such as 111-971-958 and N-017-243-1 for 1 mm wire, and I believe N-017-483-5 for 2.5 mm wire. Wurth USA also sells various versions of these flat connectors.

Based on all the contributions here, I found out that there are three basic standard sizes for spade connectors, 0.250", 0.187" and 0.110". The two connectors on the speaker are 0.187" and 0.110" in size, and I was able to order male connectors in both these sizes on Amazon, which are even available in three different wire gauges ( 10-12, 14-16, 18-22). Thanks to everyone that contributed to this, your help made all the difference in figuring this out!
