Default Torque Tube rebuilders in NY/CT

I am pulling the Torque Tube out and want to have someone rebuild it.

I have limited time on weekends so having someone do this so I can just bolt back in would be a huge time saver.

Let me know if anyone/any shop does this in NY/CT. I am in 06824.

Rebuilding those is really a niche on an already niche car. Black Sea is the only game in town for these. Fortunately, they do at times have units available and ready to ship, so you could get one ahead of time, thrn send yours back for the core deposit.

944 Ecology does it, too.

Torque tube rebuilds are not all done the same.

Black Sea R&D rebuilds them with proprietary internals and at a higher finished product than others. However they are more expensive.

Ahh, thanks. 944 ecology is close to me.

And I think a stock rebuild is adequate, they lasted 150k miles.

Rebuilds are not stock rebuilds per say. Most re builders use the old holders and bearing inserts which are more or less done and replace only the bearings which are not the correct ones initially used by Porsche.

This is besides the problems with the drive shafts with front pilot bearing end nubs which are worn down and can cause problems with the clutch operation. Not too mention damaged splines which can cause issues as well.

The torque tube is mostly overlooked when money is budgeted for refreshing a Porsche. However the torque tube can cause frustrating driveability issues to include catastrophic failure.

This is certainly a situation where you get what you pay for.

Voith,

The website fully explains the product lines and their differences from old stock parts. Also has information about torque tube problems of the 944/968 lines.

You get what you pay for...

Once heard it put like this-

You can buy Oats cheaper, but the quality may not be to your liking.

I've read it but it doesn't state anywhere what is the actual bearing used.

I understand the benefits of your carriers, they look much more stable than oe's are, but bearing itself is what I'm interested in.

What's the part that sets it apart from classic offerings?

I would think a good machine shop could do it, or maybe a driveshaft shop if you have one around. Their lack of specialization [speed] might be offset by not needing to ship. You could provide them with a procedure.

Parts cars are pretty cheap these days...
