Let me tell you another thing about this "Florida Car". Being from Florida, myself, this 928 will take years to get all of the Palmetto bugs(Roaches) out of it. GUARANTEED!

-the last photo shows what happens when you don't take care of them ( 928 for sale in Florida, with very rare factory Berber Tweed Sport Seats )[/QUOTE]

Thanks Hammerhead,

I appreciate your thoughts.

Yes it gave me the ******* just getting close to that 928. It isn't very far from St.Augustine, next time you run by Williston just s.w. of you, check it out. It will be there for ever...... the leather bolsters on those rare factory sport seats with berber tweed inserts, are as dry as cracker crumbs.
The whole car is a goner. Quite pathetically sad.

........ the rest of that early 928 in Florida. If it would be possible to line up the previous owners, then the current owner, have them all bend over and deliver a swift a**-kicking to each, this in itself would not be a strong enough gesture of displeasure to how this car has been so wronged.

May the ghosts of this poor Porsche's Palmetto bugs forever haunt the dreams of it's perpetrators of violations which have put it here.

That's truly a shame to see a once love 928 in this state of disrepair. I would love to restore it but doing so would cost milestones more than the car would ever be worth. Its just depressing to see. I'd buy the car (or tow it away for free more realistically) just to get it out of that owner's hands and back into the hands of an enthusiast.

Did you also have any other stuff come with your car from Europe ? Was it a European delivery to the first owner ? Many were.

Things like the plastic gloves or drop cloth, or the little pouch with the air gauge and the baggie with the antennae mast cleaning wipe ?
As I think about it more, this particular triangle did come form a European delivery 944. The owner of that car gave me the triangle. That car was delivered to the original owner as a factory delivery car. It is coincidentally Alpine White with matching white Fuchs wheels. Its an 84 however, not an 86. It does have sport seats and a raised hub wheel. I help the owner maintain the car. I am uploading some pictures of that car to share in this thread currently.

As a side note, I have the complete tool kit and unopened bag of gloves that came with my 85.2. I don't have the original owners manual or warranty booklet. Nor do I have the air compressor or triangle. I have never personally seen the antenna wipe or the tire pressure gauge and sleeve. Rare finds indeed.

I have the Monroney sticker, owner's manual, warranty booklet, warranty card, dealer add on sticker, and tool kit for my 85.1.

THANKS for posting those photos Dave !

Any story that goes with the Euro delivery and pickup ? Is the owner today, the original owner's relative or friend ?

Very cool it not only has the color matched FUCHS but the Sport Seats and raised hub steering wheel as well.
( funny thing about those cars with the raised hub wheel. Not only does my 'delete special' 944 have this kind of rare option, but it also has the 3 spoke steering wheel. I haven't seen that many early cars with this raised hub, but in every case they all had the base steering wheel with the 3 spokes. Any one know why ? or are there cars out there with the Sport 4 spoke wheel with raised hub spacer ? )

The car was delivered at the Porsche factory I believe. The original owner bought it and was a professor at a college in California. The current owner bought it from the original owner after a head gasket failure sidelined the car and the car had been sitting for a number of years. Get this, the current owner paid.... $500 for this amazing car!! I had hinted that I would like to buy the car should the current desire to sell. He did say that if he were to sell it that he would think of me first. Hoping one day to own and cherish the car. There is plenty of paperwork with the car and original owners guides and such. Its an amazing car really.

Note the stamp in the warranty booklet. Its in German and I'm not entirely sure what it says however. I suspect it had to do with the European delivery. Ever seen a stamp like that?

About the raised or extended hub steering wheel;

Mine is extended and is leather 3 spoke. I have never seen the extended hub on the 4 spoke wheel. There is also a 3 spoke raised/extended wheel currently listed on ebay:

Well, I tried leaving the URL for the ebay listed wheel, but reenlist must have filtered it out. Anyway here is the title to the listing;

Porsche 911 944 924 Three spoke leather Rare Extended HUB steering wheel

Dave,
about that German stamp---

It says:

PORSCHE CENTER
Krauss Dealership
85 Nurnburg, Schamber (?) Street

then the phone number

I believe this would have been the dealership which Porsche arranged delivery thru and did the final transfer to the new owner. Remember, up until the last few hundred 944 S2's and all 968's, everyone of our cars were built at the Audi factory in Neckarsulm, not unlike how some Boxsters were built in Finland by Valmet ( a gun manufacturer ) or by Karmann with 914s. There were many more makers in the early 356 days such as Wendler (550) or Karmann or Drausz for cabriolets and roadsters, and in the 911 era, again Karmann as well as Porsche Stuttgart at Werk 1.

If the 944 was bought here in America at a dealership rather than say a serviceman buying a car in country, the same deal would transpire if a Euro pickup and document signing happened in Germany. Some dealer at a town near where the folks were departing for their European drive in the new car, would need to deliver the car and do paperwork transfer upon receipt of funds.

I found it fascinating the page you show with the explanation of where the serial numbers were located. ( and understand this completely from our own personal experience when driving between certain bordering countries while in Europe, with a car from Porsche as our 'gift' for nearly a month. The border patrols thoroughly scrutinized all paperwork going over the border and back again and questioned us about ownership, not unlike going across into Canada today at certain border crossings. )
