Price Check 1987 944 S
I have my car up for sale here, craigslist and the other board and I am getting no responses. It is a well optioned car in nice shape.
Am I way off on price?
Thanks!

If that doesn't work:
I have a 1987 Porsche 944 S for sale.
111k miles
16V 2.5L engine
LSD Transaxle (stamped code AGR)
Power Sport Seats
Bilstein Adjustable Shocks
Script Door Handles
15 inch Phone Dials With Painted Centers
Momo Steering Wheel
25.5 mm front sway bar (calipered)
18 mm sway bar (calipered)
Dansk Exhaust
I picked this car up a couple of months ago with the intent of turning it into a dedicated DE/track car. I have since changed direction. It is too nice of a car to strip out. I do not know much about it's history. The exterior is in great condition. The interior is in great condition. The sport seats are very nice with no tears and minimal wear. I have only driven it to and from work (a couple of miles). It has a small power steering leak. It revs very freely and pulls very nicely (significantly better at top end than my NA). It handles very well on the Bilsteins.
It is a nice car. It needs a nice home. I can take other pictures if you want.
Located in Trumansburg, NY
$6500

Want to trade it for a 1963 rambler sedan?
Clean
287 v8
3spd on the column
Aftermarket fully programmable fuel injection
Less than 50k on the odometer
I've been daily driving it for about 11 months. Outside of a starter failure, it's been great.

I'd say that's a very fair price. Especially with the LSD transaxle, which is apparently quite rare on the S models (I don't suppose you'd be interested in selling the transaxle?).

Up here...there's very FEW 944s for sale. The biggest free site Kijiji.ca only shows a handful in the greater Toronto area alone. Prices range from $4000-$8000 for an S or NA...turbos are $10K+. There's some hack-jobs out there too, asking stupid $ for their abominations.
The late 80's 911s price are ridiculous up here...I've seen them from $35,000-$120,000 if you can imagine that...I see the market is heating up down in the US too.
Of course, you can ask whatever you want...if someone will pay it why not?
I've had my S for 10 years...paid $7,000 for it, and I've enjoyed wrenching on it. When the little things have not been done (timing belt, tensioner pads, clutch etc) those WILL reflect upon the price.
Our cars tend to like maintenance, and you to open your wallet to keep them running and happy...wait are we talking cars still? lol

I think your price is fine for a lower/mid mileage 'S' - pretty niche market for 944's, so if it doesn't sell overnight like an air-cooled 911 don't sweat it.
If I was a buyer two things that would turn me off are:
- Aftermarket wheel that doesn't vibe well with the interior. Put the original back on.
- Talk of it becoming a track car. Usually people associate track cars with shoddy examples. I know this isn't the case with yours, but it's the first throught that comes to mind when people mention "bought as a track car".
Otherwise.. great looking car. It will sell. Try BAT.

Thanks everyone. I feel good about the price. I will leave it up for sale. I am in no great hurry.
Unless...someone wants to trade for a SP1/SP2 car

I have a similarly optioned, similar mileage 1987 944S. I looked for months before buying and based on my experience searching for a 944S I think you're actually a little low. I believe the "S" cars don't command the premium the S2 cars do more because of looks than performance. Since our cars are visually identical to lesser 944s it's difficult for a casual buyer to justify the premium. But drive a 944S with a S2 intake manifold and a MAF and it all makes sense.

OK you got me...i will hijack my own thread. Tell me about this S2 intake and MAF modification. The longer I have the car the more I like it

Nice car. I owned that car from 1990 until I sold it in 2013. I sold it to a friend who kept it for a couple of years and then moved on. Looks like some changes have been make since he sold it. The transmission must have been changed, the original transmission was not an LSD. It was a great car for me. It had a cam chain tensioner break at about 80K and the head was rebuilt along with rod bearings replace while it was down. The sport seats are a nice option...I can't believe that radio is still in there.
