New 3D printing idea, figured I would pop into this thread and see if anyone had interest with this project.
The 944 Turbo Cup mirrors are all but impossible to come by, they do pop up for sale every now and then but there is a guy trying to corner the market buying up all the sets @ $400 and trying to resell them for $800. Considering how few sets are out there he can probably impact the market. That said there is a very viable alternative in the MkII Golf / Jetta mirrors. The mirror housing is the exact same part as Turbo Cup mirrors, but the base is very different. My though is to 3D print new bases, and also new gaskets as they are NLA. The VW mirrors are readily available for $30-40 a set, so if bases could printed for something reasonable I know of a few people who would be looking to buy a set.

You need to find a material that isn't going to fall apart from vibration. I would imagine the car's vibration would easily break a printed part.
If they are designed to fold, that's another consideration. It's a significant amount of force to fold them with the detent.

Considering the 968 mirror base is plastic, and the manual 944 mirror base is really crappy pot steel, I think 3D printing something strong enough shouldn't really be an issue. There are lots of material choices for 3D printing from the very soft plastics to Titanium. I'm not suggesting printing them out of Ti, but just saying that the material choices are diverse.
To the point of a car's vibration, race teams readily print 3D parts for track use, an environment far harsher than our 944 experience on the street.
What material did you use to make that linkage bushing and what is the cost per unit? Because 9Products makes them out of Delrin, which is very hard and tough, way better than original, but I think they probably charge me a lot more than even double their cost even though I'm a dealer. Looks like I will start to reproduce an NLA fuse block kick panel soon. #13 in this image, Thanks to the machine below, I can now cut them, The material is almost identical to the vulcanized fibre I use in my regular job. Laser cutter to cut out nla pn 477 941 802
I haven't been on here in years but still mess with 944s, I also happen to be an engineer and have access to a half-million dollar print lab. I get Starbucks every morning so I engineered a cup holder for my 951 that can hold a venti iced coffee(or grande also) at over 1g. Fits like a factory part and after finishing will look like one. It securely clips in with no modifications.
@richmond946: That is super cool. I'm jealous of your access to that kind of equipment. I don't have any food or drink in my cars but I love the idea of doing something else with the ashtray area.
