Default Power steering rack reassembly for core charge

I took apart my rack thinking I was going to rebuild it and once I got in there I realized that I had basically 0% faith that I would be able to reseal it without leaks.

i've gotten my rebuilt rack in and I'm trying to reassemble my old rack to collect my core charge.

I can't seem to get the control valve to slide back into the casing, no matter how I wiggle/slide things. Is there any trick here?

See picture.

Take the little plate off the side where you have it clamped in the vice. Two 10mm bolts. There is a spring under it that keeps tension on the rack / pinion gear. When that is removed it should twist right in.
