Default 944 trans oil loop delete?

I recently pulled my 91 turbo trans with lsd and oil cooler apart because it was leaking between the housings. During a rushed reinstall of the pump housing I broke a few teeth off of the drive gear for the pump. Seeing how these gears are no longer available what would be the feasibility of just disabling the pump? I live in a cold climate so I dont think my oil temps are much of an issue. My biggest question is, if the gears in the rear of the trans would still be lubricated without the oil going back through the return of the cooler loop?

It should not be a problem. I have run my transmission half a season this way. I have plugs that I made so you can plug in the pump outlet and rear cover inlet. I sent you a PM.

Yes, you can replace the side cover and end cover with non-cooler versions. You do have to reset the shimming under the differential carrier bearings to reestablish preload and backlash. The gears and bearings will still be lubricated just fine, your transmission will be identical with one purchased without the pump and loop option.

Thanks for the replies. For now I've just taken the pump gear, snap ring and gear key out so my broken gear has nothing to drive and mess up. So that this winter I can just take the cover off and put a new drive gear on there.

Cooler or no cooler, what is the ideal operational temperature range for the trans?

I am getting about 150*F on the case with a cheap hand held pyrometer....driving sanely.

I have no idea on the temps. Got everything back together today and now I'm getting a bunch of gear noise from the rear of the trans. Took the axles off at the trans and still doing it. Comes from the rear housing it sounds like. Using fresh swepco 201 so I doubt its the oil. Hopefully one of my bearings isnt going out.

Thats my noise. Seeing people say its just the 5th gear noise, but I had never noticed it before taking the thing apart.
