anybody near SF bay need wrenching done/help soon?
Hi,
As you may know for a few years I've been offering my time and services as a sort of mobile 944 mechanic. I have travelled all up and down California from Berkeley to Palm desert to help rennlisters and pelicans and their friends fix their 944/968 cars.
I am looking into taking a trip for a few days to the sf bay area to visit my brother and some friends but need a little more justification to actually make the drive. So I figured I'd check if anybody has work to do.
I've got lots of the special tools and methods, I usually just do the work in your driveway. $50/hour is the standard rate. For timing belts it's a flat fee, $200 for 87-91 engines and $175 for 82-86. $225 for a 968- the later the car, it takes a little bit longer due to the automatic belt tensioned being in the way. Water pumps are priced as a belt job plus the additional time required to change the pump, usually another 2-3 hours depending how dirty the engine is.
If you've got a project planned and need help, please let me know and we can work something out!

Spencer knows what he's doing. And, despite being a godless heathen, is an all around decent fellow . I wouldn't hesitate to trust him pretty much any automotive project.

If you were only going a little further north (Portland, OR), I'd pay you to help with T & B belts in my '86 NA. If by some chance you'll be up this way after the first of the year let us know.

A vise works great. You could also use a brake caliper clamp. The most important part is to protect both ends of the tensioner by using washers when compressing.

I just got my 944s, and I'm a halfway decent shade-tree mechanic but could use some help w/ things like adjusting balance shafts and cam timing. I don't own any dial indicators and it's worth having someone more experienced.
Not sure when I'm going to dig into the car but will let you know.

Yes Sir, Mr Rocket, but I'm not sure I'll be ready to do everything before early next year. My t-belt looks ok, rollers aren't making any noise, etc. I already did t-chain pads, too.
My car has a decent lack of power but not only do I need to finish a tune up, but there are other items I need to check before I hire in some big guns.
Maybe I can catch you on the next trip?
