Rear Valance
I have a 944S and was wondering if the rear valance that Turbos and S2's have would fit on my car? I am not sure if I am calling the right name but it is the part that covers up the muffler but lets the tail pipe show?
Any help would be appreciated:bigbye: |
Yes it will fit on your car. Actually since it's an S (after 86 when they started putting thme on turbos) it should already have the mounting holes and things there for it. Get the pieces, maybe drill a couple holes, and it's there. There has to be a writeup somewhere on it. I know Excellence had an article on it a while back. Anyone have a scan of that?

Excellence had a very detailed write up with photos and parts list at:
08/2001, #103-P125, "Cheating the Wind with Style" - Installing a 951 rear valance on a 944S the most important pieces are the cage nuts and allen screws that hold the valence up to the body - get these from the Porsche Dealer - the knock outs for the cage nuts are already in the body panels. An easy installation. |
even in my body panels?
are the part numbers on the PET? if so i'll just get them from the nearest dealer. thanks! -Michael- |
Mike-- they won't be on yours because it's an early car. You get to drill holes where the knock outs are supposed to be. Not too difficult really, but yeah you need to get the parts from the dealer for it. The PET should have everything you need listed.

Thanks for the info Rand_J,ERAU-944 and dave120! What is "Excellence" and any suggestions where I might find a red valance?
|
Excellence is a great magazine on Porsche available at most places. They did an article as said above that explained the installation of one. Pretty straight foward. You can get one OEM through Porsche, or through an aftermarket place. A suggestion, go to a junkyard and find a nice one and have it repainted. Actually, you can try Partsheavan.com or dc automotive, they are Porsche dismantlers. The most likely always have them! Or try ebay. It adds a great touch to the car.

I'm guessing most of the ones you will find in a junkyard will be...red??
Anyone know how heavy the valence is?? Mine seems like it weighs a lot when I pull on it. It has rubber, foam, and the valence itself. Complex looking piece...and obviously an after-thought! Still looks cool though! |

It's actually pretty light! Picked mine up this year at Hershey.....now if I could find some time between work and my 23mo old son, to actually install it........oh well...at least I've got one! joe |

Thanks - here's a few recent pics of my car http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/1951.jpg http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/3951.jpg |
Those are excellent wheels, Randy. If you ever need to give them away to someone on Long Island who has my car feel free to ask me. If I'm in a good mood I might let you give them to me.... Maybe
