torque spec for steering shaft clamp bolt

my new steering shaft was moving around on the steering rack shaft (side to side movement and up and down). so I tightened the bolt and now it does not move but I could not find any torque specs so I just got it as tight as I could by hand with a 13 mm wrench and a 3/8 drive watched holding the nut. I just but hands to turn the 13 mm nut with a small 13mm wrench. it is tight now and doesn't move but i'm worried about making it too tight and possibly causing stress on the steering shaft and causing it to possibly break later.

any idea for what the torque spec should this be ok.

thanks

Are you using the original splined shaft? I don't know what the torque is, but I know it specifies a grade 10 bolt. Not a normal grade 8.

When in doubt, you can always look at the torque specs and find the same size, and hopefully grade bolt. Usually they are all about the same, so you can get a good feel for what it is.

yes i'm using the original splined shaft and new original manual steering shaft.

I made the clamping nut and bolt tighter and there is no movement at all but I'm just worried that I could have made it too tight and could cause stress on the steering shaft. probably unlikely though as I just used a small 13mm wrench and ratchet.

I'm using the original nut and bolt as far as I know but i'm not certain.

what size would the bolt the original bolt be so that I can look up the torque spec.

thanks.

A regular grade 8 M8 bolt is 15 ft/lbs. I don't know what the "standard" grade 10 torque is, but I expect it's probably mid-twenties ft/lbs.

Factory manual says 22 ft/lbs for that locking nut.
