968 Rear hatch interchangeable?

Just the frame is different to accommodate the 968 wing. Otherwise they're the same.
However, I think the key location on the 968 is a little lower on the body to make it easier to access with the wing... maybe someone can verify?

Yes, with the 968 wing, the key access is very limited. My standard key head did work with a 968 wing, but it was very tight.

Now that you say that, since it was my track car I did the same. No third brake light thus the key still worked. Thought I remembered guys having to cut their key head in half for clearance.

Just curious - do you guys use a 3rd brake light from a late 944 at the top of the hatch? Or just forget about the 3rd brake light?

What everyone else has said. I just put a 944 hatch with lexan on my 968. Only problem is the tabs that are on a 968 hatch for mounting the spoiler are not there on the 944 hatch. Otherwise fits perfectly. There is a thread about modding the hatch to make the 968 spoiler fit. Putting a 968 hatch on a 944 works too, but you have the brake light issue with key hole, and good luck finding one For a hefty price, there is a 968 3 piece trim and spoiler available to turn a 944 hatch into a 968 lookalike from deutschenine.

I have seen people cut their keys, but I didn't want to do that! I have a piece of carbon that I'm going to make a block off plate with.
Just for clarification, the spoiler itself does not use the tabs, just the center trim piece. The spoiler itself is held on by four bolts that go through the frame.

Or you can can just use the rear hatch release button and not worry about the key issue.

For the electric hatch release to work properly, you need strong hatch struts, which I avoid like the plague because I've seen so many hatches delaminate right after new struts are put in.
But electric release with weaker struts and a remote / keyless entry (so I could lift it manually) would be cool. I have a Bulldog unit I've been meaning to install on my 968 just for this reason .

The rear hatch glass on my 968 is cracked. Would I be correct in saying that the glass from a 944 regardless of year would fit the 968 (ignoring any third brake light issues) ?

Something I would be interested in knowing too. Also, frustratingly with the frame being different, the black side trim (aka 'hockeystick') is also not the same - and much harder to find a replacement for. @£200 in the UK for new part. It's those ridiculous little threaded studs and captive (if you can call them captive) nuts that keep it on the frame that are the weak point - corroding and snapping off - the reason why I need to change these. Anyone breaking a 968?
