Default best deal for a quality water pump?

First of all i'm in Canada so shipping costs more for me and sending rebuilt pumps back for core return won't get me much back.

I was going to go for the zim's rebuilt one but it comes to 250 us including shipping and core so that's about 270 canadian, and shipping is expensive (50 bucks).

I replaced my pump last year but i got a rebuilt one from napa that is a "Geba" german rebuilt pump. I did a search online and people in the bmw forums say that geba pumps are crap and fail early. so i'm thinking of replacing it this summer again so I don't' have a failure when i'm back in school in september.

zim's also has a brand new pump for 136 bucks plus 50 for shipping which would be a bit cheaper than the rebuilt and I don't have to send back a core.

anyone know the quality of the new zim's pumps? 136 bucks seems super cheap for a new pump.

there is no option other than zims rebuilt.
the alternatives are bound for failure or way overpriced.

why is this still a question? the core cost shouldnt matter since you send it back.

Considering a new WP from Porsche is way more expensive than all those options, Zims still wins. Never heard anything but positive feedback.

I guess I"ll get the zim's. I live in canada so shipping is more expensive. to get the core back I have to ship my old pump and pay 50 bucks for shipping and it's not guaranteed i'd get my core back bc they have to determine if it is rebuildable.

+1, get it from Zims. I've bought rebuilt and new from various sources, Zims is the best in the end.

But, just make sure you return your core quickly enough or they might not give you your core charge back.

Ok zim's it is. i'm not sure if it is worth it for me to send my core back. you get a 100 bucks back if they determine your old one is rebuildable, and it costs about 50 bucks for me to ship it there from canada.

last year I replaced the pump 3 times I got 2 bad rebuilds from the dealer in a row, they get their rebuilds from world pac same rebuilder as the one pelican uses I think. both pumps started leaking from the weep whole right when I installed them. then I got a rebuilt geba pump from napa and it has been fine since last year but I have just heard geba is crap also.

kind of odd how a company that just build new water pumps / rebuilds like geba would not make quality pumps. not like a water pump rebuild is very difficult, it's just a bearing and seal that gets replaced.

previously I had a new Laso pump which is crazy expensive and after 3 years the pulley had a lot of place due to worn bearings.

You know, if you've got a pump that's working, why mess with it if you don't need to yet?

As long as your old pump is working, I think you can rest assured that they'll accept it.

bc I can only do repairs in the summer, if I get a leaky pump next year when i'm back in school I won't have a car. the pump is fine right now, but i'm just worried bc I did a search online and found that the bmw people don't recommend Geba water pumps bc apparently they fail early. still might last a couple of years on my car. I've probably only put 3000 kms on it since last year.

Default Lots of Chinese pumps out there

I got a Gates water pump through Rock auto but returned it when I read "Made in China". It looked okay but I don't trust Chinese seals and bearings. I also wonder how good the Chinese castings/aluminum alloys are. I later got a genuine Porsche pump from svauto.com for $180+ $26 shipping from Ontario California. I wonder about the rebuilt pumps if they are German or Chinese castings and the quality of the seals and bearings. Who knows. Good luck.

are you sure they have a genuine porsche pump for 180? seems way too cheap compared to other prices I have seen online (around 500).
