Question about engine temps for any other desert dwellers.
Hey guys,
So here in Phoenix we just had our first of many 100+ days and I am wondering about coolant temps. Noticed my temp guage was higher than I am used to seeing it and I was wondering what kind of temps anyone else who might be in a similar climate might be getting.
This is where it the guage was at once I got home (was closer to the middle of the 2 bars when the car was moving) after about 40 minutes of freeway driving at an average speed of 75mph.
Just want to make sure my car will see me through the summer as well as it has seen me through the past 8 months.

In the 5 years I lived in Riverside (almost as hot as Phoenix) and so far in LA (was 100 in my town today) my temperature gauge didn't go past halfway unless something was wrong.
Even today the gauge doesn't get past the lowest hash mark.

I have an 87 turbo and live in Phoenix. This is my first summer with the car and so far the temp has gone about 1/8" above the 80C mark in stop and go traffic. On the highway it stays pretty much on the 80C mark.

If it's in the 90's, my A/C is on, and therefore the fan. So it never really leaves the first mark (80 C.?). If I don't have the A/C on and it's in the 90's, it stays on the first mark or slightly above, as long as I'm moving more than 30 mph. At 70 mph no matter what temp, it's just off the first mark.

I have a pretty heavily modded 951 that puts out a lot more heat than a stock car. Here in texas my datalogs show my water temps at a pretty constant 180, regardess of what the sketchy in dash gauge shows.

I'm driving an S2 in Phoenix/Tempe area. My car has been retrofit with the low-temp T-stat, and also had the water pump replaced, both made a noticable difference. Driving at normal speeds has the gauge at the first mark or just above. Stop and go puts it between the first and second mark. It drops visibly when the second fan comes on. (Now if the damn A/C could just get fixed!)

Well the Waterpump in my car is new. I replaced it when I did the belts about 4k miles ago. I have tomorrow off work so I am going to pull the thermostat and replace it with a low temp one and flush the radiator.
