How hot should oil cooler get

How hot should the metal part of the oil cooler hose get coming off the oil cooler. My oil dipstick is broiling hot but my oil lines to my oil cooler are only slightly warm.

What pumps the oil to the oil cooler in the bumper?

Is your car a turbo? Are you confusing the PS cooler with the oil cooler?

Car is a turbo and I see where the lines go into the block and to the oil cooler itself, but what pressurizes the oil lines to feed the oil to the oil cooler. Is it the oil pump, and if so is there anything that can go wrong - aside from the oil pump - can go wrong and stop oil from flowing to the oil cooler?

Oil pump pushes it out to the cooler and back, thru an oil thermostat. But its not uncommon for oil not to be circulating thru the cooler during normal street driving - doesn't get hot enough. Oil has to be in the 205-220F range (depending on thermostat part #) for the therm to open.

I don't know how hot my oil is getting, but the other day while checking it after I turned the car off, I touched the dip stick while checking it and it felt like I touched a hot grill or something.

Just out of curiosity I got under the car and felt the part of the oil line coming off the oil cooler that is bare metal and it only felt mildly warm. I would have thought it would have been broiling hot as well.

How hard is it to change or check this thermostat?
