Default I need a new manual rack and intermediate shaft, help!

Hello,

I can't believe how hard it is to find these things. Does anyone have one for sale or know where to get it?

Thanks,

Luke

Yeah these can be difficult to find. If you don't have any luck, I know a lot of owners have de-powered their PS racks. That may be an option for you to either look for a de-powered one for sale, or buy a used power rack and do the conversion yourself if you are in a time crunch.

Also check junkyards for 83 944s. The manual rack came standard on those and not many models after that year have the optioned manual rack.

I have a shaft out of an 88 that I don't need if it will suit your purposes.

Why do you think you need a new rack?

An 88 manual steering rack? The intermediate shaft for a power rack does not fit the manual rack. One of them is an inch longer.

I will have to measure it when I get home. I got it already stripped from the a car that had been used to make a kit car, along with all the other mechanicals.

It's a lot cheaper to get a power rack and intermediate shaft, and then depower it. Otherwise it'll be $275+ minimum.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies! I put an LS1 in my 86' 951 and didn't hook up the ps. I am running the power rack still. I would like the ratio of the manual rack. Is there a way of converting the ratio of the power rack? I would prefer to stay away from the ps, but I might do that over the de-powered rack ratio that I use now. It's too heavy for autocross.

Cheers

Paragon says NLA on their website, but I'll still call.

This was a good read http://mwthemachineshop.com/944-power-rack I have the machining experience to lengthen my 944 power intermediate shaft and make custom solid mounts. Does anyone know of a reason that the 924 manual rack won't work? I realize the difference in how the tie rods connect to the rack, but I think the total rack length is very similar. Thoughts?

I'd give Dean at http://www.emotorsports.org a call and see if he can help you with the intermediate shaft. He rebuilds steering shaft U-joints for our cars. He says on his website that the manual ones are very hard to come by but you never know, he might have a lead on one. Either way if you end up getting hold of one and the joints are worn, he can rebuild it for you.

Thank you, I saw his rebuild service, I think I can find an intermediate shaft now. It still leaves me needing a rack though. Anybody have thoughts on the 924 idea as I mentioned above?
