Default Replaced and tested fuse, wipers still don't work ... has to be the wiper motors?

Never had to use the wipers since I never drove the 951 in the rain. One day I nudged the wiper arm next to the steering wheel by accident and noticed the wipers didn't work.

I replaced the 30A fuse in slot 24 and tested it with a fuse tester, flying colors.

Wipers still don't work.

Replace the motor(s) or anything else to check first?

It could be the switch. Do the wipers work in any of the switch positions?

My '86 944 sat for a long time before i got it. The wipers did not work at all. I ended up taking the wiper motor accy out, took the wiper motor apart and there was a ground wire/strap that had come loose from the housing, near the brush assembly. I soldered it back on and they work fine now.

You should unplug the wiper motor and see if you are getting power to the motor before you take it clear out. It's a pain.

Could be the relay or stalk switches. If when you turn on the switch you see your voltage drop significantly it is probably a seized motor.

Its likely the stalk switches, try to score a used set and swap them out.

test the assembly with direct power - I have had some wipers stop working due to solidified grease, so it's worth checking the unit directly and then also check if power is getting to it.

Ok so I tried another 30AMP fuse and it "works". Not when the ignition is halfway but after I actually start the car and am driving down the road. However there's an awful "throat clearing" sound being made by the wiper motor and it doesn't go away with use, hmm ...

Took it apart, sprayed electronics cleaner throughout, waited, sprayed white lithium grease throughout, put it all back together, same throat clearing noise.

fyi this mini ratcheting tool which can also hold a small screwdriver bit is necessary for this job - so many bolts and screws that are hard to get to

Mine makes the same noise even after cleaning and regreasing. I don't use it enough to care though.
