Exclamation Central locking system doesn't stay locked

Today I upgraded the 4-speaker system in my '88 944 Turbo to the 10-speaker option. This involved removing door panels, fishing around for the right wires in the door looms, and installing new speaker pods and door panels.

Somewhere along the way, though, I must have done something to the door locks because after buttoning everything back up and going to lock the car at the end of the day, the central locking system simply will not lock the doors. Whether I use the button on the console or the key on either door, the locks will move to the lock position, stay there for about a half second, then return to the unlocked position. Normally when I go to lock the doors, the lock travels all the way down, then returns up very slightly after the same delay to mechanically lock the doors, but this is no longer the case. It just pops right back up.

Electrical problem? Mechanical problem? Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm going back 20 years on this, but I think the behavior it is displaying happens when it thinks the drivers door is open. This is to prevent you locking the keys in the car, in a rudimentary kind of way. You might look around for what would make it think that.

I replaced the central locking circuit board (used from ebay) thinking that was what was causing my car to do the same. Unfortunately that didn't help. I will check the "door open" button in the drivers side door frame and get back with you on this whether that fixes it or not.

Roll your windows down before you test your door locks. Could keep you from locking yourself out.
