Front engine oil leak stopped with oil changed ?
I bought my 87 NA back in july. shortly thereafte, It developed an oil leak coming from one of the seals under the timing belt cover which lost a quart of oil about every 600 miles, I drive it about 250 miles per week. The engine doesnt seem to burn any oil.
Per general consensus on the forums, I was using Valvoline VR1 20W50. Recently, I changed to Valvoline 10W40 as it is now around freezing in the morning and the car was running a little rough at startup, I thought the oil might be to thick.
It has been 600 miles since I did the change and the leak has all but stopped. I am doing a timing belt change with all new front engine seals next week anyway, but I was wondering if anyone has a logical explanation for why the leak stopped.
1987 Red 944 N/A *** NOTE- I probably posted from my iPad, please excuse any typos, bad punctuation or odd grammar, if it is unreadable, it probably was posted from my iPhone.

Possibly...?...
1. the oil filter was loose
2. the front crank seal stopped leaking
3. the freezing weather caused extreme internal engine pressure and the 20-50 oil just blew out.
If you do the FOES seals, make sure you get a new oil pump sleeve or the old sleeve may eat the new front crank seal.

Was the car parked a long time before you bought it? Sometimes seals take a "set" when in one position a long time, and gradually work it out with regular use. Could be coincidence it did so around the time of the oil change.

I'm always intrigued by the oil leak threads, I never know what to believe. I have a 750 mile per quart leak coming from the front center of the engine. I saw a drip making its way down from what appears to be the front crank seal. I could not actually SEE the leak but where else could it be coming from if it is just below the center of the crank? My 944 S2 cab had been sitting in storage for 4 years unused. It would be nice if the " it just stopped leaking claim had any merit to it
