CV joints
Yesterday I removed my CV joints from my '83 because the inner bellows were torn. I took the joints aparts and cleaned them. Some of the bearing surfaces have some galling and I was wondering if I should still use them as they are?

I disassembled both inner cv's and noticed galling on only two of the bearing surfaces. The galling is about 1/4 inch long on each surface. It really doesn't look to bad, but I'm just not sure. If i reassembled, repacked and put them on backwards, would it be O.K. ?

It should be fine if you orient them such that the new wear surfaces are opposite the galling. That means the inboard & outboad joints are mirror images. The inboard CV joint is driven from the inside, so wear is on the leading eadge. Whereas the outboard CV joint is driven from the outside cage, so the wear is on the trailing edge. You can see this by twisting the inside CV joint to simulate power while holding the outside joint fixed. Make sure you assemble left & right ones to be mirror images of each other and keep them labeled.
