Climate Control Shorted Out
Could the clutch locking up on the AC compressor cause the climate control to short out and fry the unit?
My '89 NA 944 was in the shop because the AC was blowing hot air and now the climate control is toast and the shop is blaming the clutch on the compressor seizing up and shorting out the climate control.
I also noticed the rubber hose to the vacuum canister by the battery is missing; doesn’t the system need the vacuum canister to be connected to operate properly?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance…

Yep, it happens. A good Porsche shop should know which land pattern on the printed circuit board is burnt off and replace it with a piece of wire. Also, you should install a fuse between the control unit and the AC compressor clutch. Probably 5 amp should do it.

I assume your referring to the power wire to the AC clutch. Would it be acceptable to place the fuse next to the compressor using existing spade connectors. Don't know where else I would put it.

When I replace the compressor I'll include a new fuse, thanks!
Is there any way to bypass the vacuum line to the vacuum canister, or does the canister need to be connected in order for the system to work?

You need the Vacuum Canister hooked up for the Heater/AC Flaps to operate. See the link below.
