Default Running VERY lean, out of options

Hey guys, I'm running out of options here. The car has been running like crap since I worked on it last winter.

Symptoms:
1. Car has no power off boost. Even worst when ac is on. Works ok when turbo kicks in.
2. Vacuum leak at idle. Shows only - 10-11 psi on idle.
3. Engine stumbles when cold start

What I did last winter:
1. Oil pan gasket + rod bearings (disaster job, it still leaks, have to do it again)
2. Remove and reinstalled timing belt and balancing belt to change seal behind the timing back cover

What I did so far to fix the problem:
1. Pressurized the intake for vacuum leaks
- changed all the vacuum hoses
- throttle body seals
- new idle stab valve
- new intake manifold gaskets
- new banjo bolts
- .... I have absolutely no vacuum leaks. Only leak I have is the the 2 o-rings that connect the AOS reservoir. But that is not part of the intake

2. Rechecked the alignments for the timing : ok

3. Swapped computers

4. Disconnected the o2 and reconnected : ok

5. Adjusted the idle a million time

6. Changed the fuel filter, and fuel pump check valve last week (engine was running a bit smoother after that)

6. Installed a wideband : Reading : idle 14.7... slow acceleration : 14.5 to 14.9.... wot around 13.6

Now last night, I told my self:
- intake list : out of the list. I've removed the intake manifold 6 times since spring, pressurized it at least 200times... I've listen carefully... I HAVE NO LEAKS
- Maybe I'll jack the car again, and again put the engine and top dead centre and ckeck the alignment again
- So did morning, I look at my spark plugs... they are WHITE... crystal white

ONE QUESTION: I have read last night that bad timing could create a vacuum leak... Could it make the car run lean?

test your TPS and 02 sensor they both can cause a lean condition... My 02 is bad so whent it's connected I get 17-18 AFR when it should be around 14.

running the car w/o O2 isn't catastrophic. it makes the DME go into dumb mode which usually means you're running richer than optimal.

have you checked fuel pressure at the rail? maybe FPR gone bad?

I finally found the ot mark, + the mark under the car at the bell housing... I had a pro 944 mechanic to redo the belts 2 years ago.

ot mark is spot, but the camshaft mark is way off. I'll take the cover off and see.

I'll start another thread concerning timing.

WAY off? unless you're 180degrees off, it'll prob mean bent valves.

get cam timing back on. then do compression test.

Guys... Vacuum leak at idle can also mean bad timing.

I redid the timing on the car, everything is back to normal... Except the engine may be damage (bent valves)... But I just came back beating the crap out of the car on the highway, and its running amazing.

I think i just experienced what having a full Vitesse stage 1 kit is really suppose to be.

Just amazing

I wish i could say the name of a stupid suppose to be pro 944 mechanic who as done the timing on my car here in montreal, but i won't

Please pm me before going to see someone.

The cam was about 90degree off, for 2 years.

Only problem is that I couldn't see the ot mark on top of the bell housing... I had to guide with the big mark at flywheel from under the car.
It's hard to get it line up, if you turn the crank 1degree, it moves like 6 degrees from under.
I just hope it's right

If you have bent valves, I'd think a compression check will be considerable off the norm. If they are bent, I wouldn't run it, as you could loose the top of a valve, and then its pistons, etc. A lot more $'s. If you are lucky, they are still OK.

Other than a compression test

Yeah - non-running and a really fast "whrrr" sound when the starter turns the engine over... because there's no compression.

these 30 year old, low production, semi-exotics.

you call Chris White and ask him really nice if he'd like to come and catch the Stones at the Bell Centre....

oh.... that was 3 weeks ago.
