My 89 window sticker also says windshield antenna instead of Limited Slip Differential and LSD does not appear as an added cost option on the right hand side, but it does have code 220 on the option code sticker in W/M booklet.

The seller's going to get me a picture of the option code sticker when he's back in town, I'll post it when I have it.

If I'm understanding the option codes, will all the other stuff that was part of the turbo S show up on there? such as the different sway bars, Koni shocks etc.

I see there's a code M758 for the '88 turbo S, so I'd assume on the '88 cars that code was used in place of the individual option codes?

If I called a porsche dealer with a VIN, might they be able to pull up records of what the car is (I've done this at BMW dealers a couple of times, but not with a car of this age), or would they likely just laugh at me and hang up?

From what I have seen, the S cars do not always have the codes for the options included with the S package if the S option code is listed. That is to say if it has 758 it might not have 220 but will have an AOR trans. I do not know if 89 models are like this or not.

Don't worry, it was paid for. Included in the $44k base price...

M030 and 220 will likely show up on an 89T sticker. Nothing additional for the 928S4 brakes or swaybars, which are likely considered included w/ the M030 upgrade on the Turbos.

Engine and Trans codes are also shown on the option stickers. The 89Ts will have the "52" engine code, and the "AOR" trans code.

Whether the 220 code shows up, or limited slip is or is not stated on the window sticker, the AOR transmission has the LSD w/ oil cooler.

Whoa. Interesting. According to my options sticker I have a 51 block. I've heard of others with this digression from the norm. There's no doubt in my mind the way the engine pulls that this is the Turbo S motor and all the options and visual cues are Turbo S (LM3Z, 758)...

I'm going to have to check the block and turbo sometime.

This was my window sticker.

Weird that it states the m44/51 motor & stats on the left side in the standard options column, then restates the m44/52 motor & stats under the options column.

Since you have the 758 Turbo S code I would not worry at all about the car's output, it will have come w/ the -8 turbo and the -09 DME & KLR. Can check the block stamp, which is right below and to the left of the #4 exhaust header. I am curious how your block is stamped, as the 88TS motors that I have looked at are stamped 44/52. But again, there is no mechanical difference between the 51 and 52 motors - the output is based on the turbo and computers. FYI - Turbo Cups had 51 coded motors.

There is some variation from the factory with the option stickers on these and many cars. Especially the window stickers, they do not have absolute technical accuracy.

When looking at the Turbo Cup cars, there is even more variation on the option codes (754, 637, 638) and stickers, and a possibility that some of the Cups and Clubsports did not even have option stickers.

Thanks for the info. Very interesting.

I'll certainly post up the block number when I manage to get it.

One other item about the car I'm looking at, is that the carfax shows it failed emissions testing a couple of times at relatively low mileage (19k and 36k.) Both times, it passed emissions a few days later.

I'm not in a state that requires this, but I'm wondering if that's to be expected to some degree?

Isn't it also unusual that bobsantos's car doesn't show 030 or 220 on the options sticker?

My '89 has both, and I assumed the 88's did, too.

my bad, you're right, letter states options for 89 and has 220, but right above it, it states only for non turbo. so lsd is standard on 89+ 951's.

if I didn't take the time to really look I would have never noticed s2 fine print over the option list. and yes, the lsd was not free. a 951 didn't cost 45k almost for it to have nothing in it...come on, it's not an early boxster

I got a photo of the option sticker today, as best I can tell it has the important stuff (030, 220, 52 engine code, AOR transmission).

They are included in the option 758 "Special turbo S" which is THE 944 COLLECTOR.
This option also include the engine upgrade 51 to 52 (220 to 250 HP)

This Limited edition "Option 758" (Around 1635 ROW, including 104 named "Turbo Cup" for the French market) were manufactured ONLY in 1988. This car is the transition from the 220 to the 250 HP (Motor 44/51 to 44/52).
So, from 1989 all the 944 Turbo have the engine 44/52... But can't be the Limited edition "Option 758".

Regards

Default My 944 window sticker

Hey Bob Santos, my window sticker is nearly identical to yours, for a 1988 944 Turbo. With S limited edition option package, though mine mysteriously starts at about $1000 higher before options...$39,765.
Then with exact same options it totals $49,035 at the bottom.
Only difference. The color is Zermatt Silver Metallic.

$50k for a four cylinder sports car 25 years ago...wow.

What is the 'radio Reno' option, by the way?

Thanks
Dave

Just found mine too...'89 MY.

What is the 'radio Reno' option, by the way?
Good question, I have that too. The sound system is listed separately (as "10 speaker sound system with amp") on mine.

For reference, going by BobSantos sticker, the '88 S has the following stuff that was NOT listed as standard on the '89:

- sport chassis
- headlight washers
- full power seats
- split rear seats
- rear window wiper
- all cloth seats
- cloth door panels
- headlight washer
- protective side molding
- special interior

All the important stuff - 247 hp engine, LSD, big brakes etc., it's all explicitly listed on the '89 as "standard equipment at no extra cost".

I am not sure what "sport chassis" means - I always presumed that was the M030 suspension. But my car has that, even though it's not listed as std equipment or as an option on my sticker. I definitely do not have the rear wiper or headlight washers though.

What exactly are "split" rear seats anyway? And "protective side molding"?

I am also surprised to find that my car apparently came with "partial leather front-linen/black". It actually has full tan leather all round and matching carpets, door cards etc....PO never mentioned a complete interior replacement

Price was $46080
