Default Bike racks again

Just thinking aloud, I have a ski rack I bought a few years back. The lower bracket uses the bumper mount. I'm wondering about knocking together one for the other side and then have an upright attach to each to hang 2 bikes across. have one that the quick release for the front wheel (which you remove) to bolt into and a cradle on the other one to hold the back of the bikes. Or something simpler?

I know there's lots of off the shelf options out there but am thinking of trying something different. Any thoughts?

I do that a lot too when its just my bike but when i pack my car for 2 people, luggage and 1 dog for a long weekend away I need my hatch space. It would be great to take our bikes. Thats why i got the ski rack. Sometimes I really need to use it!

I had the same thought when I had a ski rack. Would be a really easy thing to build.

Thule used to make clips for 944's to mount their racks. I've never seen a set though

Will a normal bike tray for a roof rack span the space? Making an adaptor to connect the two should be easy.

i'd like to avoid roof racks. I love the silouette of these cars and i'd like the roofline to stay clean.

Use a roof rack tray perpendicular to the car just above the back bumper. Bolt it to the ski mount bracket

Ah I gotcha sorry. Daylight savings finished today im still tired! i'll look into it. I guess it will depend on weight and if I can put my licence plate on it. If I obscure my plate I'll get pulled over. if i can triangulate it somehow maybe a web strap from each upright with a female dome to attach to one of the male domes used for the hatch carpet.

^ I didn't think about it at the time, but turning the rack around and letting the back tire of the bikes sit over the windshield would have allowed the hatch to be fully opened.

Can get some tonight. I usually put the Seasucker on the mini, but it will work fine on the 944.
