Post Trunk release on S2 Cabriolet

I am wondering about the hatch release switch (near hood open lever on left side of driver footwell) on the 1991 S2 Cabriolet...should it open the trunk? The reason I am confused is the owners manual indicates that it opens the hatch on the coupe, but doesn't specifically state the same function for the cab. I have not been able to get it to function, key out,key in, all key positions. Wondering if it is just a placebo switch, or if I have a bad connection.

Thanks,

Joe

Joe,

I have a 1990 Cab and the switch pops the trunk just as you would expect. The ignition key must be on for it to work. I would check for a bad switch or possibly the little motor in the trunk which "pulls the trunk latch".

Good Luck!

Thanks Mike. The motor works ok when I use the key to open the trunk, but no go on the switch. I'll check out the switch.

Question

Joe,

To use the trunk release switch in our cars the key has to be in the number "1" position. Juat like when your raise or lower the top.

Thanks Guys for the responses. I was able to track down the problems. First the footwell switch was intermittent. Got that cleaned up and discovered the piece that connects the latch release cable to the release arm was missing. I am assuming it was a pin with a clip. I replaced it with a small nut/bolt and it is working fine now. I'll probably replace that with a pin/clip one of these days.
