Default Another newb brake question

Even after reading, I still have questions.

I've read that calipers are generally interchangeable front to rear but not side to side. Also read that early 924's and 944's used the same calipers.

There are no part numbers on the two pair I have and my nephew, who acquired them, doesn't remember if he got front and rear or both front sets. He thinks they are from a 924.

How can I determine what I have?

And this will be a good object lesson to take pictures of stuff BEFORE you disassemble them!

God! Everything about Porsches is a learning experience!!!

The front/rears are different as are the Left/right, so they don't swap that way. The 5 lug 924/944/944S used the same calipers up front, so they should interchange just fine. So long as you have the right ones...

Can't help you on ID though.

Thanks, curtisr, the diagram is helpful but doesn't answer the question of what fits on which model car.

In comparing the parts I have, they look virtually identical, particularly the mounting holes. There are slight differences but nothing major.

Seems like Porsche put parts numbers on darn near everything - except calipers!

And searching Pelican didn't help. Too many differences, not enough ID info.

Will keep researching. Gotta be some answers out there somewhere. (And next time, I won't turn my nephew loose to get parts!) LOL

Like it was stated, don't mix front and back - the piston sizes are different and would wildly affect braking performance (if they even fit...).

You can tell the left vs. right by the placement of the bleeder screw - it's always at the top.

As far as I know, all 944 NA's up through '86 are the same. Perhaps the later NAs, too. I believe they're also the same as 924 turbo.
