Red face 944 registry/club

I was thinking; sure PCA meetings are cool with their auto-x and displays etc but many of the 911 guys there have forgoten that the 944's sales success saved Porsche from demise in the 80s. Sure lots of them think the car is cool and much more of a Porsche than a 924 or 914 (sometimes for the 914) but you cant help but feel snubbed off. So I was thinkin, one of us should start a 944 club and registry on the net. Its too bad that we are all spread out across North America (I'm in Vancouver BC) but maybe other 44 guys would find out about the club. Its an entertaining thought to say the least. I noticed one guy here is from Portlad Oregon (was that you Tabor?) and there are many 44 guys here in Vancouver. News of a meeting would spread pretty fast and a cool procession (I know I mispelled that, or did I? whatever, F@ck it) of 944s through the street en route to a twisty road certainly would look cool. I got inspiration from the highly touted "R-Gruppe", (you know, that casual group of early 911 guys) and all the annoying "honk-honks" and high beam flashes (stop already, youre gonna blind me) I get from passing 944s.

Beer nights (like tonight, for instance)

Last week, 2 of the guys came over and I skipped work and messed with A/F ratios on one of the 951s.

We help each other out with parts and tech, labor, etc..

Been meeting for beer once a month for a year, most of us are Rennlisters...

etc., etc.

If you are really serious, you can contact the S2 owner in the quote below. He is setting up a special interest group for the 944S2. The quote is from the S2 E-mail list:

Subject: 944s2 Special Interest Group
From: "Richard Lutz" <rdl944@yahoo.com>
Date: Thu, 8 Nov 2001 09:19:18 -0500
X-Message-Number: 1

I recently took the plunge with PCA. I have sent in the paperwork to establish a PCA Special Interest Group for the 944s2. I have been contacted by PCA and told that the SIG will be officially established at the February board meeting. Once this is complete we will be able to work with a local PCA region to host an S2 fest, as has been recently discussed. This will allow us to use PCA insurance at no cost as well as obtain a $300 rebate from PCA for a multiple event weekend. I will keep you up to date as I get more information.
Thanks
Richard Lutz

There was a 944 registry, but the guy shut down the site last spring, financial reasons IIRC.
