Correct: there it is a steel tube in type 1.
But type 1 fuel rails seems to have developed a tendency to crack at the weldings of the support brackets to the tube in my part of the world.
I ran my type 1 without the plastic cover so I could see when it starts sweating.
Brazing the brackets with silver solves the problem.

Law of continuation of mizery I guess.....

There are actually 3 different rails that came on 8 valve cars. The 83 - 84.1 rail has the supply line connecting to the FPD via a curved "S" tube. The 84.2 - 85.1 rails have the supply line connecting to a small hard line braised directly into the rear of the fuel rail and then there is the late rails, as pictured. The two early types do not use the jumper line.
We do have fuel line kits available for all three types of rails.

Seems my 87 S is a little different as well. Does anyone sell just the fittings?

I'd rather flare the steel lines then use a compression fitting, it's just me I guess but I never trusted them on anything with pressure or fuel..

So I would need the fitting that goes to the rail and for the damper.. Or do I
really need the damper??

The "S" is a 16v car, so yes the fuel rail is different.
The good news is, being a 16v car, your lines came from the factory with screw on fittings to the hard lines. You can just go to Porsche and buy a new set of lines.
Last time I checked they were still pretty reasonable, $165 ish for the pair from Porsche.

Is the damper line the same as the 8 valve cars?

Well, I got some lines from Rennbay and cleaned up the engine compartment today and installed the new fuel lines and 2 vacuum hoses.

Need to order some plug wires next. Initially looked like they survived because the outer layer is fire resistant. But the internals were melted away.

Also need some new hood insulation.
