They're 968 door handles along with 968 side mirrors. A very popular mod.

Back in college I had a cardomain page for my old car....I wonder if its still up there somewhere....

For the odometer, I'm almost certain that its a cheap fix. You just need to send the odometer to North Hollywood speedo in CA and they'll fix it for <$100. Total cost is that plus shipping and removal/install (plus not having a speedometer in your car for a few days). It doesn't seem to make sense that a car would have a new belt and filter, but busted odometer, transmission, and rims....

I don't know the seller at all, but one of those things is (allegedly) not like the others, so I'm skeptical

I have all the stuff for a 5-speed conversion, and I like this car, but it's on the wrong side of the continent!

Do you think the four bent rims have anything to do with the broken trans? Offroad excursion, maybe?

I'll take some photos tonight. To be honest, my intention was to part it and keep some of the parts for my other projects. But, I'm not to sure now what to do with it. Overall, it's in very good shape. I never have seen such seamless body work before. But some of it is cracking and chipping.

Sorry the photo's are in the garage. I was looking through the paperwork and saw were the PO paid $4200 for the body work. Interesting seats in the car.

The engine starts and sounds strong. I need to do a compression test on it. The transmission is in very poor shape. Lots of RPM to get it to move.

Awesome!!

Looks to be about what I expected. I would think you could make more profit by 5-speed swapping it and fixing some of the minor problems. As someone who parts out 944's often myself, I don't think there's enough value in parts alone to make much profit, regardless of how much you may have gotten a deal on it. But that's just my opinion anyway.

If you do keep it and fix it up, do as Butters says and make a new thread with some pictures of the progress!

Congrats on the purchase!

Thanks Drift for your advise. I got to look the car over in the next few days and make up my mind.

I'd +1 the opinion to keep the car complete. The body is unique, and definately has some value to it. Minor chip/cracks are reasonably easy to fix up. The body as a whole is more valuable than its parts given the way the seams are filled. It would be messy to pull a fender alone for example.

Good points ZR8ED. I was mostly looking at the value of the engine, 968 parts and interior. Then sell the body as a roller??

The color alone is really unique. I had an early 85 944 in a very similar color. Everyone that was able to see it really loved the color, especially 944 guys. Eventually I got it running and sold it, and it got bought and sold a few times, then somebody wrecked the front end of it. So I bought it back a second time, with the intention of parting it out. But literally before I could start pulling it apart I had an offer from someone to buy the car whole as a daily driver. He really really loved the color. A couple years later now this guy has been daily driving the car ever since!

It is a great color. Do you know what it is called? Is it a Porsche color?

Unfortunately nobody buys 944 rollers, unless they are practically given away. The 2.7 engine, 968 parts, and interior could easily yield the initial $2500 if advertised well, but I'm confident the entire car as a whole could yield much more with a 5-speed swap and a better looking set of wheels, if advertised well also.

I'm sure if that guy's craigslist ad had some really nicely detailed photos that showed the cars true beauty and his description focused more on the positives of the car rather than the negatives, then he could have sold it for way more, or sold it much faster.

Mine was just a cheapo randomly selected candy blue, sprayed on by Maaco. It looked pretty good, but awful compared to the paintjob I see in your pictures! Yours is probably a custom color as well.
