I'm going to clock the torque tube adapter....engines all day long at breakers.

Looks like he's putting in the twin turbo.

Any "x300" Lexus sedan from the 90s/early 00s should have a 1JZ. Obviously the Mk4 Supra had a 2JZ. Then if you count the Japanese market, they're in everything. Engine price and availability isn't a big concern. Japanese equivalent of the LSx swap.

i asked because i spend more time in junkyards than most people (more than is probably healthy ) and i think i've only seen a handful over the years.

but if theyre really that common and can fit, bring it on...

I certainly admire those who pull off the deep projects, and think it's very cool. If you have the skills and time, or the deep pockets, awesome. I think it's important not to be naive about the depth of the project. Getting the motor is the very easy part!

Even having built 1/2 dozen 944 race cars over the years, and knowing going in it was going to be a much bigger project than the others, the Franken44 has been a daunting, if rewarding project. If I didn't have the resources of the LS swap pioneers to go by, I'd have given up long ago.

I also got ahold of the last GM bell housing for the GM I4,5,6 all alloy dohc engines. The adapter I'm designing will bolt up to them all including 60°, 90° v6, Northstar V6 and V8 and all LS engines.....There are even 2 v6 Isuzu dohc engines that will bolt up....

No, because GM changed the BH to trans bolt pattern when it went to 6 speed.
However the LFX bell housing is also detachable and concentric so an adapter would be easy to do.

LOL, when I was mid 20's, I bought a Firebird with the 2.8 liter 60deg.
Bored it 30 thou over, custom forged Arias pistons, cam, Edelbrock Torquer2 intake (bolt on box plenum) and a Holley 390.

Ran the hell out of that car, couldn't break it. The engine on a stand was taller than long or wide.
Had the 3 peed 200C Hydrmatic with a push/pull on the console for the TCC so the converter wouldn't lock unless I was cruising hwy speeds.

Moved on, car was parked at my shop for a year or two, hood unbolted and just resting on the car with intent to ****** the engine and store it.
Somebody wanted the body for a 1/4 mile car project anyway.

A not so close friend pulls up, says his S10 truck (lowrider, tricked out, you remember the 90's) engine had gone out and he had heard about my 2.8 and wanted to buy it as a replacement.
I named a price. He balked.
I told him I'd carry a battery out to it, I would start and warm it up and pin throttle wide open for 30 seconds.
About 20 seconds into WOT, he grabbed my arm off the carb and said "I'll take it".....

That 3.9 is a direct descendant iirc.

I rod per crank journal, fine engine.

taller than wide is right, it's like a brick standing on end such a narrow engine.

yes this is a direct descendent of the 2.8...GM made it into a 3.1, then 3.4, then revised it to go FWD only as the 3400, then took it to 3500..

for 2006 they took the block and moved the cylinder "V" down relative to crank centerline about 3mm, which pushed the edges of the bores out ~1.5mm per side.
this gave them space to bring the bore up to 99mm. this gave room for larger cam bearings which means larger base circle cam...

then they took the basic design of the LS cathedral heads and made them fit the canted valve V6 heads so the port roof is raised considerably vs older versions. the combustion chamber is nearly identical to the LS, but with canted valves for even better flow.

the long block with oil pan, 2 heads, 2 cast iron exh manifolds, aluminum upper and lower intakes, and a starter is 307lbs...
i think once dressed with clutch/BH/accessories etc itll be about the same weight as a 944 2.5.
