That's what I'm talking about. My first car was a g-body and have always loved the grand-nat/gnx since I was young. It is actually what started my love of the turbo.

The L67 is the supercharged version. According to Wikipedia...
Power is up to 240 hp (180 kW) and a somewhat under-rated 280 lb·ft (380 N·m) of torque (real output is estimated at about 310 lb·ft (420 N·m)). Despite being an all iron engine, it is surprisingly light weighing only 392 lb (178 kg).
My daily driver is a Monte Carlo (2006 so it has the mid-range 3.9l LZ9) but the forums for the Montes are full of the L67 because it came in the SS version of many early 2000s GM vehicles. The N/A version was in the base 4th Gen Camaro/Firebird and several other GMs. It's a damn popular engine with a HUGE aftermarket. I wouldn't write it off as an option and would disagree with the disappointment argument. The 3200 and 3400 from the same era I would agree with being disappointments.

I got my 944 with the intention of building an LS1 swap, but I think a direct-injected V6 would be kinda sweet. Something like the LFX out of the V6 Camaro with direct injection, 323hp/278lb·ft and estimated 30 mph in a 3,750 lbs car.

There's a huge aftermarket for Grand National engines and support at TurboBuick.com, gnttype and others. The Grand National engine can be reliable for a daily driver if tuned right. They even make a new aluminum Grand National engine at TAPerformance but it's rather pricey.

I like that motor a lot, and theres tons of power to be made, not to mention the fact that they made a billion of them.

I'd love one in my 944 even in n/a form

I wish I could remember where I saw it but somewhere there was a thread started by someone using the new 3.6 V-6 motor out of a new Camaro instead of a Chevy V-8. On the surface this sounds like a pretty darn good idea. That V-6 has 300+ hp, is more compact and rock solid reliable.

Yeah, some new V-6s are making power like an older V-8 used to make. Would be a good swap if it has an aftermarket to boost the power even more if people wanted. I always thought the Audi I-5 turbo engine was cool, too.

akron craigslist ad now expired:

No tire kickers or joy riders... CASH ONLY....

1981 FERRARI 308 GTSi RED WITH TAN. THIS SPORTS CAR IS REALLY FUN TO DRIVE.

EVERYONE LOVES THIS CAR! THIS FERRARI HAS BEEN MODIFIED BY 2 OR 3 OWNERS AGO. THE MOD WAS DONE IN FLORIDA. THIS CONVERSION MAKES SENSE! THEY CONVERTED IT TO A FIERO (GM) V6 2.8 ltr. WITH THE FIERO GETRAG 5 SPEED TRANS. THIS MAKE IT REAL EASY TO FIND PARTS AND GET IT WORKED ON. NO SPECIAL FERRARI MECHANIC NEEDED. I JUST HAD THE (GM) TRANSMISSION REBUILT TO THE TUNE OF 1400.00. IT RUNS AND DRIVES JUST FINE. IT ALSO HAS 3000.00 IN NEWER KONI SHOCKS (as stated by previous owner) They are adjustable to the height you desire. THIS ALSO COMES WITH A SET OF REPLACEMENT DOORS. THE DOORS ARE VALUED AT 2000.00. THEY ARE LOADED WITH THE GLASS AND IN GREAT SHAPE. THE OVERALL CONDITION IS THAT IS LOOKS GREAT FROM 10 FEET AWAY, BUT HAS SOME RUST SPOTS THAT WILL NEED ATTENTION TO MAKE IT A SHOW CAR. IT IS AGREAT DAILY DRIVER.Upgraded 355 MOMO rims with Great Directional Z RATED tires! The Tach, Oil, Temp, and Fuel gauges work. Speedometer works (some of the time- I think it is a ground issue) It has some quarks, but wont keep you from having fun while driving it. I do not have the Org. rims. This has the Fiero rear cradle... simply 4 bolts to drop the motor and the rear end. This is a GREAT car to put a LS1 Corvette motor in. It uses the ORG. Ferrari muffler. Windows work, but run slow like all Ferraris. I have the cover that goes around the spare tire and covers the NEW master cylinder. Comes with Manual. Bring CASH and enclosed car trailer. Unless you are within 100 miles. I AM ONLY SELLING THIS COLLECTIBLE 308 (like magnum PI) BECAUSE LAST YEAR I PICKED UP A 348. ( does any one guy need 2 ferrari's??)

I remember seeing that ad! I thought about flying down to pick it up, yank the embarrasing engine, throw a northstar v8, and wala a REAL Ferrari with more zip that stock. Reminds me of the days of "jags that run" dropping 350's in to jags, then Datsun 240z's.

350 in an xj(6) or (s) is no worse than 944 v8s.....and a 350 in a Zcar isnt blasphemous in the slightest....its a kindness really. But a fiero in a ferrari? Given how many fiero 308 replicas have been made....to say nothing of the testarossas and F40s.....its a terrible waste of a car. The guy should have bought someones kitcar if he wanted looks without *****.

use a 90's japanese turbo 6cyl. all of em would fit, all of em are very easily tuned, all of em are cheap to find parts for. the best of the bunch, imo, 3000gt vr4 engine. don't worry, it's the transfer case that's weak, not the engine. engine is compact and would for a lot of extra space. o and with a set of downpipes(cats removed) they have a throaty v10 like sound to them under load...i would know, i've got one sitting in the driveway. long block with turbo's stock will run you about 3g. ecu about 300 and harness, probably another few hundred. huh, i have a dead 944, and many vr4 engine parts....hmmm

that and 300hp in a 2800lb car...

best engine in reality from japan to use, supra i6 turbo engine. downside, good luck finding one. upside, bolts right up to the bell housing, and the 968 6spd is the same transmission. cause a new 6spd supra TT trans is about 7g and there's only 3 in the USA right now.
