Default Cracked Dashes: Alternatives?

The dashboards on your average 944/951/968 are usually cracked, and finding crack free dashes for sale are getting harder and harder as these cars continue to age.

Im in the position where I want the interior on the 951 im rebuilding to be as close to perfect as possible, and for that, I'll need to do something about my dash which is badly cracked.

I've had a dash cover on it since 2005, I hate how it rattles. I hate how it looks. I hate how the vents dont line up with on the defroster. I hate how it warps a little more with each summer.... I just dont like it.

Is anyone covering theirs in suede, leather, or anything interesting? Does anyone have pics? By the way, im not looking to make the dash look like a mcdonalds playground either...

Can you talk to that plastic company and see if they could make an ABS reproduction of the dash? That would be bitchin.

I have been tempted to use a spare dash to make a negative FG mold for a while...

Willing-to-spend price would be up to the cost of a currently-available leather dash cover + installation. So up to $800, obviously lesser preferable.

Classic 9? Is that the outfit that does the uber-impressive dash recovers that one of our guys on here (or more) has? Red 951. His interior is drop-dead gorgeous. My dash is still thankfully in about the top 10% of condition on here but it won't last forever- I'm going that route when the time comes if a new/reman unit isn't available.

Classic 9 did my dash - twice. First time was black leather upper, linen leather lower. Second time was black Alcantara upper and the linen leather was untouched. 928 defroster trim.

I got the Classic 9 kit and my daughter & I did it ourselves over a weekend. Looks great and was not too expensive.

How would you know it was a Porsche if the dash wasn't cracked?

the 3 different colored puddles on the ground would be a good clue.

looks for a fibernew mobile repair. they can fill those cracks, spray the dash and make it near new for less time and money without taking anything out.

I have a late non-airbag dash (black) with only a couple of tiny cracks at the defrost vents - otherwise perfect - for sale if you're interested. $200 plus shipping.

I pulled my dash and had it releathered at a local upholstery shop. It took about three hours to get it out, and about four to put it back in being very careful. It was a few hundred dollars all total. Well worth it.

I get all interested in doing a project like this until I see

... little upsetting... I've taken my cluster out, and the radio, and the shift assembly and boots and console, and AC console, but never a whole dash...

Anybody have any pictures of early dashes recovered by Classic 9? That shop isn't too far from me, I might pull my dash out and have him re-do it this winter.

It's really not that bad of a job.
