Don't be fooled with the little ball bearing ( valve ) we have had quite a few aftermarket mounts for 944's over the years with these and they were just fake , it was just a small ball in the same place to replicate the genuine look ( you pay for what you get)

To answer Brad , Hamburg Tecnic is a Chinese made brand

Same with Meyle - although the box says german quality or something like that, they have a sticker stating that they are made in China.

Got my car up on stands to begin replacement. For shizzen giggles I measured the DS URO mount in place; 54mm, against a "fail" spec of 65, new spec of 70. It's so squashed that the piece that projects downwards from the upper half is resting on the bottom section. Not even 2 years old. What garbage!

JET951,

Here is a picture of the valve and some of the removed/sanded part numbers on the right.

The motor mount weighs 30 ounces each and has a ~71mm relaxed top to bottom measurement.

The second picture is the "finish" of the rubber material to the metal. This is similiar to pictures of Rein mounts in the 2012 catalog.

An opinion?

OK, got my failed Uro DS mount out. It is IDENTICAL to the ones off eBay that are claimed to be Rein, right down to the molded-in "date stamps" or mold numbers. I'll be returning them and biting the bullet... Judge for yourself.

That sucks. FYI the part numbers are never cast at that spot on OE mounts.

I've been corresponding with a eBay vendor (not the one I bought from) who is selling URO mounts and claiming they are hydraulic. I said no, they're not. Here is his response:

"Well, I did as you suggested and I just called and spoke with my URO representative. He said these 944 mounts, are in fact Hydraulic Motor Mounts. He also advised the information your relying on is about 10 years old. He advised the all new car manufacturers, OEM and aftermarket companies are now making and using hydraulic filled mounts. He advised there are some companies like MTX and Beck/Arney that are contracting with Asian companies who are making the inferior solid rubber mounts. My rep also gave me the sales/return stat's of this part number. 2012 to date 633 sold with zero warranty and returns. 2011, 480 sold with zero warranty and returns. He advised that this is one of the best mounts that they currently make. And since I began marketing this part number three months ago, we have sold 15 sets, with the same results, zero return and zero warranty issues."

Could URO have changed their design in the last 2 years? I still ain't buying it.

I seriously doubt it's changed since yours look identical to the new ones. Bite the bullet and call Sunset Porsche in Oregon. To be honest, I thought I read that Porsche dumped the gooey center many years ago after numerous premature failures, especially on the 951. The thixotropic nature of that OE gooey gel became too thin under heat and that weakened the outer urethane promoting too much flex and cracking. And WOW, 3 whole months and no problems with the new part number. Does it seem odd to anyone else they would grind off a new part number?

LOL, they could be cardboard and last 3 months. And is a distributor going to admit to one of his customers that his parts are crap?

I'm interested in the L.R. ones too - anyone got 'em for the street? It would seem my car couldn't get much noisier than it is now and I refuse to buy Chinese sh*t whenever I can. Especially if it is North American branded made in China, like Dewalt. All those companies that went off-shore need to go to the wall.

Well, the motor mount replacement behind me, and a pair of URO mounts laying on the floor, I decided to see just what's inside a URO mount. Gents, they are indeeed a hydraulic mount. Whether the oil is different than OEM, or the chambers and valving, I can't say. But there is a bunch of oil in there and they aren't just solid rubber. There are two chambers separated by orifices. The BB is functional, appears to be to plug the hole after they are filled.

What's really weird is the oil was in the sun for the picture, and it was visibly vaporizing! Stinks, too.
