Default early sport seats

I currently have comfort seats in my car but they are immaculate ,late car/seats .
I have the chance to get these sport seats very cheap but they need cleaning and fixing and they also need new rails ,they currently have citroen rails welded on. I could clean the centers and have the sides reupholstered in vinyl ?
What do you think ,should i buy them ?

For cheap? I'd do it. Porsche script cloth sport seats are worth a fortune over here.

Very similar to the set I just bought. Same bend in the lower side bolster and everything. The cloth appears to be way too faded to keep. (see on bottom of seat how much darker) Your best bet is probably to reupholster them completely. Try not to spend more than 100 bucks on them...

Can't wait to send mine to the upholstery shop! They are SO COMFY...

The centers can be washed and dyed back to black and the bolsters recovered in leather or vinyl. If i get them i am going to attempt this myself , did similar repairs before but not this complex .Made the guy an offer ,waiting for a response.

I got them and they are a little better than i thought. They are also filthy...yuk.
Since they are from a RHD car the left seat has almost no wear at all but the right seat has two heavy wear spots on the lower and upper right bolsters. The foam on the lower bolster is also heavily worn but the upper is good.
I am having second thoughts about recovering the bolsters in leather ,the fabric is in great condition apart from the two right bolsters. I'm not worried about the discoloration ,it's not that bad and i can dye them .Maybe i can find and scavenge some fabric from a back seat.
Here are some pics after a lot of vacuuming .

Default Script seats

I have a set of black script insert regular (non-sport) seats from early 944. The drivers seat is worn but has useable fabric. The passenger seat is in remarkable condition. I would let both go for $75 plus shipping. Let me know if interested.

Thanks for the offer but shipping to UK would be very impractical. Also i'm trying to avoid the center fabric that has the sewing across it ,the holes would be visible.

I did just locate a full script rear seat close by, i will try to snag it.

Clean those puppies! Other than the few nicks it seems like you could get some of those stains out. Fixing that piping might not be too difficult... also, there is a place online somewhere where they have that old Porsche fabric. Somebody will get to chime in on what it's called.

Using new script fabric is not an option , the difference between new and old would be very visible and it's also uber expensive. Since i plan to repair just the two bolsters used fabric is best ,it will match much better.
I will start work on them tomorrow and document all progress in this thread.
Order of business is as follows
- remove welded citroen rails and throw them in the garbage
- dismantle seats
- remove all covers from padding and throw them in the washing machine
- repair the two bolsters and piping
- dye the fabric with midnight black dye
- wash them again to remove smell from dye
- shape and put new foam on lower right bolster
- clean frame and install covers

If anyone is interested weight of the seats is 20.5kg with large citroen rails, i will weigh the again after i remove them.
At this point looks like a late non power comfort seat is the lightest 944 seat at 17.5 kg complete with factory rails.
ps: weight now with stock rails and seat belt receivers is 15.7 kg each

My 86 951 had the full-script sprt seats like that, brown unfortunately. But had factory heaters in em. Loved those seats.

I bought a set of Tombstones last year for £20. Quite a bargain but the recovering cost will be more than enough to redress the balance.

Catalin,

nice seat project. Problem with the script clothing is fabric wears and becomes shiny, quite bad looking. You can have good results if you remove the clothing and wash it with washing machine. More expensive route to go is get new fabrics which are available.
Here's early sports my son fixed recently for a friend of mine

Hi Olli,

Yes you are right , washing will get them looking much much better , already done this to my other seats and they came out great.
I also want to try to dye them with autosmart midnight black dye .
I almost got the covers all off , takes a bit longer because i couldn't remove the rails ,i have to grind off the welds and was worried that might damage the covers so i have to strip them first.
Also they are more disgusting than i thought ,i have to wear gloves working on them. Will get some pics up later
