Default Expansion Valve Temp Sensor Location

Greetings! Can anyone tell me where the temp sensor that is a part of the AC system's expansion valve is supposed to be located? I recently pulled my blower so that I could disconnect the expansion valve and flush my AC lines. I discovered that the temp sensor's thin tube was wrapped around the expansion valve, and the whole thing was encased in a foam insulation. Is this how it is supposed to be? I had my expansion valve replaced at a shop about six years ago, and I am wondering if they did it right. Should the temp sensor be wrapped around the valve and under the foam like I found, or should it be extended to somewhere else, like in the airflow?

This is on a 1988 944.

Thanks!

Maybe this link will help:

EDIT: I found better pictures on the KCWS forum. You need to sign up to see the pictures-free.
Excellent closeup pictures of the expansion valve position.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I have tried three times to register for this site so I can view the pictures, but just can't get it to work.
