Default 924 GTS Tribute Project - Intro

My garage seems to have a revolving door on it as of late, with cars coming and going with a frequency that has my neighbors (and my wife) questioning my sanity. But it looks like things have stabilized and I can start in on my long term 924S project.

I picked up a pair of 924S sunroof delete cars a few weeks back, one of them is sold and will be heading on to another rennlister in a few weeks, and the other is now on jackstands, waiting to get pulled apart so I can see exactly what I am dealing with.

For now there are only two details of the project that are decided, it will be a 924 GTS Tribute, and it will be very light weight. I had started a thread a while back about turning a 951 into a GTS tribute, and while it could be done, I decided that the best starting point would be a 924S. This sunroof delete car came with 944 front fenders, and has some damage to the drivers rear 1/4 so it seems to be an ideal starting point for such a car.

Anyway, onto the pictures of the car as I found her:

After getting the car home I put it in the air, sold the Cup Wheels, and started digging into the motor. So far I have pulled the head, and started to take stock of the engine compartment to see what need to be done to get this motor running. There is some slight scoring in cylinder #1, but overall things were looking fairly clean as I pulled it apart.

Are you planning to make more power than the stock 150 HP?

I like fun projects! though I get depressed every day I can't drive my 951, but I know the wait will pay off when I have an amazing car.

Dillon,

I too love a good project, and I think by having this in the garage I will be able to keep my hands off the 951.

As to the question of power, before the project is finished I would like to see something with a bit more power under the hood, depending on budget, time, and availability I can see three different motors going in, 951 2.5L, S2 / 968 3.0L, or even an LS1. My first choice would be the 3.0L, but there is plenty of work that needs to be done before I need to make that choice. I have most of the parts I need to put the stock motor back together, and I will most likely do that so the car can be moved around under its own power.

Richard, I will be pushing my car repair skills with this project, and I would like to handle as much in house (or garage as the case may be) as is possible. So I may need to take you up on the offer to lend a helping hand.

I did some cosmetic work on the car in my time after work this week, I prepped and painted the cam housing and intake. Not going to add any HP, but I enjoy having a tidy engine bay and this should help clean things up a bit:

Sounds good Ian, it may be at night as that is the only time I have without kiddos. Shoot me a pm and I'll be glad to lend a hand or two.
