Unhappy A new clutch

Man, it's been more then 7 yrs since I put a clutch in a porsche, but my 1991 944S2 cab clutch went out last year, just when I came back off vacation, thank God it didn't go out of town, well friday I pull it in the garage and started on it today around 11 am, and finish taking it a part around 6 pm, witha 2 hour break, the last clutch I did was a 1986 944 tubro, it was a bitch, but 1991 was pretty easy, a lot less parts to remove, the cab has about 47K on it, still had the rubber disc clutch in it, now Im trying to chose a good clutch for it, don't know I want to go back with the rubber disc clutch or the spring center clutch

Sounds like you had a easier time with getting the car apart than I did. It took hours with a 3" pneumatic die grinder to cut off the 6 bolts holding the exhaust pipes to the manifold. I opted for the spring center clutch and although mine wasn't in bad shape, I didn't trust it for the long run. I only pulled it because my rear main seal was leaking badly. WYIT, right? New clutch lever bearings, pilot bearing, RMS, transmission output shaft seals, oxy sensor and a new Sachs spring centered clutch. A real education.

Well I only had two bolts break on the exhaust, and that was with a hand tool. then I pull out the 1/2'' impact driver, all in all it was pretty easy, yes I pick the spring disc clutch, I heard about the vibration with the spring type over the rubber disc, did you notice any vibration on your 944 ??, love the rim, Im looking at 19'' or 20'' rims, hard to chose.

Well I have most of my parts, found a great deal on the clutch disc from Andy's Auto, a centerforce disc for $191.99, everybody was at $314.99, use the coupon ANDYFACE, it will take 5% off the price.

The vibration I feel is hardly discernable...just a bit of a buzz when you hold the shifter in your hand. If you can actually fit a set of 18 or 19 inch wheels on your car, you'll find the ride is pretty harsh due to the slimmer sidewalls. I put a set of 18's on mine and with the proper size to keep the diameter proper, it was noticeably stiffer. I love the 17's as they're a good compromise with handling and looks. Needed a 1/4" spacer on the fronts because of the rounded shoulder on the hubs. The wheels just wouldn't mount up until I put the spacers on. The wheels came from a Cayman. I bought them from a guy in Miami on ebay. I just drove over and picked them up. 4 hrs round trip vs shipping costs was a no-brainer.

Hey thanks, I think I will go with the 18'', I had 17'' before on my 87 928, the ride was nice, but I think the 18'' or 19'' would had look better, I don't drive the cab much, I fly r/c airplane and always at the field flying, but when I do find time or a porsche car show pop up, Im ready to go, hoping to have it back together late next week.

Well, after all this time, I finally pickup a clutch disc, Vertex is the place to go for 944 clutch disc, $199.95, well I sent my flywheel out to have it turned, but of course, it was in bad shape, so I call dc auto, and had one sent to me, after waiting on three clutch disc, I started this week on putting it back together, today I mounted the trans back up, I hope to finish it tomorrow and start it up and let it down off the jack stands, I replace the slave cylinder, and I have a cv boot to replace, thinking of ordering a short shift for it, but at this point, I like to get it back on the road, next month, I will do a timing belt and waterpump, fun, fun.

Well, after playing with the starter for several hours, and replacing the starter, for no reason, I found a dirty neg. cable, clean and the cab started, lesson learned, well the cab shift fine, no vibration, I'm glad I went with the spring center clutch disc, buying all the parts I needed to finish this job, I stayed under $600.00, that with a flywheel, slave cylinder, CV booth kit.
