Default Trouble with nipples

Can anyone suggest a good way to tackle stuck brake nipples?

Having finally got the rear brake lines back together - a job that's proved to be frustrating at every bloody turn - I now can't move the nipples on one of the rear calipers in order to bleed the system.

I've already rounded off the hex part of both. It looks as if Irwin and one or two other companies make sockets that fit over rounded nuts and will grip pretty well - is that the way to go?

If it's completely rounded off, vice grips are your friend. Just be careful, the bleed screws/nipples are delicate.

When the nipple snaps off in the caliper, hammer in a small torx bit into the broken nipple to get it out. It happened when I first did brake work after buying my 944.

Replace the caliper? It's probably due for a rebuild anyway.

I'd consider rebuilding the calipers, but I could do without the expense of new ones... think I'll try the locking pliers (though I'm not sure from memory whether there's really enough room to get them in there properly), then the torx bit trick and/or the trick grippy sockets

Anyone have an opinion on Irwin bolt grips vs. Xtraktors? Same idea, but slightly different approach.

Irwin: (http://www.irwin.co.uk/cdetail.php?c...lt+Grip&crumb=)
Xtraktors: http://shop.grfasteners.com/Xtraktor...Nut-Set-6-12mm

Next time use a Snapon flare wrench, chill the nipple with liquid air or the CRC stuff.

Just use vise grips. Did you order new bleeders yet?

Horrible idea in my opinion. Some people might have had good luck with it, but I have not. I did that one time thinking I was a genius and it seriously screwed me over...the torx bit broke off inside the bleeder. +1 on the vise grips. Use the torx bit as a very last resort.

Use an ez out (reverse drill bit) to get it out if the locking pliers don't manage it and then order speed bleedes so you never have this problem again. They are fantastic.

I had to use vice grips and really really crank down on the bleeder. I totally ruined the bleeder but it came loose eventually
