Default Rear Glass

So replaced my rear hatch seal and put in new lifts, soon I noted a wind noise, I guessed it was the sun roof, got wide tape and sealed up the wind noise did not go away. Then saw a post about the rear window coming lose with new shocks! I have also noted I can smell exhaust now, will a lose window allow exhaust in? I guess I will have to remove the window and do the reseal, I found one video on how to do it off the car. Is there any way to fix it on the car?

AFAIk, there is no permanent solution to rear hatch delamination. Even if you "fix" it now, the "fix" will not last.

It was a terrible design, so bad that neither Porsche nor any other manufacturer has tried such a stupid idea (large glass, minimal aluminum frame.)

There won't typically be an exhaust smell resulting from the glass delamination which occurs at the top of the frame. The delamination symptoms are squeaks, clicks and water ingress. For the source of an exhaust smell, look at the rear seal portion below the spoiler for incorrect installation or hatch pin adjustment.

Yes the hatch frame separation has been a nagging problem over the years, we have fixed many. BASICALLY, we remove the frame from the glass, clean off the old urethane reglue it with 3m window weld clamp it in our jig, let it dry and reinstall. We have done many over the years with great success

Perhaps you can write an article to show us exactly how you do it. Just about every repair attemp I've read about lasts about a year at most. We'd all love to pick up any tips and tricks to help making a repair that lasts.

I guess the real test is whether the shop gives a lifetime warranty or a one year warranty. Should be an indication of the confidence in his process.

so I put a strip of foam across the rear hatch up against the seal and that got rid of the smell, so I guess a rear glass reseal with pin adjustment is in order!

Are the plexiglass replacements still easy to find, knowing that this is coming down the road for all of us at some point?
