What is looked at in a PPI?

Just curious. Please don't give me the wise ass answer of everything lol

Anything they specifically look for?

a fairly good list is available on Clarks Garage

fluids, steering/suspension componets, brakes, tires, filters, thats about it. they do it to a car when you bring it to a dealer, they call it an MPI(multi point inspection)

I've scared quite a few sellers of cars when I do PPI's on cars for friends.
I turn up with a toolkit, jack and stands and spend about an hour and a half on normal wearable items.

for a proper ppi, you really need someone who has owned a 944 before - they will really know what to look for and the condition of the car

Ok cool cool thanks guys, and yea the game plan was to have a guy local to me come up with me and have him take a look and see what he thinks of the car and go from there.

+1 everything mention on Clarks-Garage & maybe throw a little extra a "compression test".__87 944 C__Can't compare a proper PPI done by a 944 mechanic which know every nook & corner on those cars to a MPI done at a dealer.

I used Paul at Performance Automotive, Inc. in Malvern, PA a few months ago. Great guy and he did a thorough job.

Here is an article which I read before making my purchase from Pelican: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...repurchase.htm

Is the car Philly local?

Fara 02-15-2012 11:01 PM

Though I love to do a compression and leakdown test on cars that I inspect, most dealers will not let you remove the spark plugs.

private sellers who have nothing to hide will in most cases.

Peter Zimmerman wrote a GREAT article which resides at the top of the 911 Forum. I sent it to the place that did my PPI and they were very appreciative of it.

Here is the thread 911 Crazy mentioned...https://rennlist.com/forums/911-foru...immermann.html:thumbup:

try and be present for it, too. we've recently received two 911's with PPI's done at Porsche DEALERS and they've been out of whack.

they said a CV boot was torn when it was a loose power steering reservoir clamp, for instance.

hockeyhead019 02-16-2012 11:44 AM

Ok thanks for the links and comments guys... and yes I will be present for it
