Help Coilovers hit transaxle oil cooler

2 Attachment(s)
I was installing a set of coilovers and discovered that they interfere with the transaxle oil cooler (see pics). I was going to test this car at Roebling on Sat. and now I'm kind of stuck. Anybody have a quick solution. The tubing seems pretty stiff, so I don't think I can bend it. What's involved in removing or bypassing it?

I tried 2 different coilovers, but neither fits.

Common problem permanently solved by removing the factory cooler coil and fitting a small aftermarket "radiator style" cooler there instead. Plenty cheap on fleebay or try your local parts store for a small trans cooler. I got lines and adapters also from a local store. GL

I guess that's what I'll do. Not going to be ready by Saturday.

John, have you tried mounting those coilovers upside down? It might give you enough clearance to run the stock cooler coils. Only pic I have of mine is the wrong side but you get the drift.

I'll look at inverting them, but I'm pretty sure the spring will still hit.

Your lower bolt looks a lot shorter than mine

Different design though I don't think the actual lower mount is positioned any differently. Looks about the same distance from the face of the control arm to the lower mount. Mine are Ground Control I think yours are Racers Edge.

i took mine and pulled it off the braket and put it on top of the braket-instead of mounted below- this seemed to make enough clearance.

Its worth a shot. I'll try it tomorrow.

Will do

PM sent, but just in case I did what XSboost did, and put a slight bend in the lines, and I was told not to invert them by a Koni rebuilder, but I have talked to someone who had them inverted and was racing with them no problems.

Should not run either of those types of shocks (bilstein cup or 8210 koni) inverted. Regardless, won't change the interference problem.

Must be some difference in the cooling coil wraps on diffferent cars/transmissions. I have not had installation interference between the factory cooler and coilovers on my cars. Probably 1/2" gap or more. I do see some bending of the fins where the coil has rubbed on the spring, probably due to a combination of trans mount flex under load and suspension travel during track use.

I won't try inverted, just bending the coil and placing on top of the mount.
